As soon as they start grabbing at officers, it's time to shoot for real. They are not protesting. They are fighting and trying to create damage. If they are actively trying to hurt/attack police, they should be shot. If they are just yelling and screaming, fine.

Just for reference, there were about 200,000 Aztecs in Mexico City when the Spanish arrived, vs about 10,000 Mexicans in all of California in 1846
