Seeing a good bit of fence damage this morning. Especially where the fences are exposed to the brunt of the wind. Retention pond near our house must have overflowed last night. There is water (and trash) everywhere in the park adjacent to it.

Serious question: which direction is the wind expected to blow? I'm assuming a more or less west to east wind, but that's an uneducated guess.

Usually when they give the warnings out like this, it's all hype. But this one has me nervous. The humidity has been insane lately and I just have the strange feeling this one isn't going to be just hype. 80-100mph winds? Sheesh…

The models have it coming in from west and/or northwest.

Family near Sherman had hail last night and no power today. Church is cancelled and the town has asked everyone to conserve water until power is restored. Phones don't work well either.

I'm no scientist. Well, I kinda am, but I question the mets ability to forecast a Derecho type event. If it's a squall line, that's one thing but it sounds like they are forecasting a more specific event.

Derechos are incredibly rare here but there's enough data and trends in the models to point at it. Not saying it'll happen for sure but trending the wrong way as far as that goes.

Even if that particular event busts you're going to have a strong squall line rolling into the metro area moving at 40-50 mph with embedded winds pushing things up to the 70-100mph range. Not going to be fun for whoever catches any of the storms.

Yes. And given the energy with this system, any discrete cell ahead of the line will have potential of massive hail.

I'd expect any in the squall line to be smaller, say topping out at golf ball. But golf ball driven by 70-100mph winds will wreck shop.

Camp Constantine director called while we were en route. They are pulling down the tents and weather proofing the camp. Some troops are turning around; those that will be there (including us) will bunk in the dining hall tonight. Should be a "restful" night.

My wife is scheduled to land at DFW at 7:20 pm after being gone on a friends trip for 8 days. I've been solo dad with 3 young kids since last Saturday…I MUST have this flight arrive on time.
