I know, dear diary,
Interesting conversation with an Atlanta judge last night. Christmas party season. His wife and my fiance are nurses. I'm a lawyer. I was talking to him about the Teslas and long story short everybody was drinking. The usual "be safe" etc. as everyone was getting ready to leave. We started to discuss how Teslas and other autonomous vehicles will have future effects on legal cases.
If the Tesla performs as it usually does, ie, perfect, no cop could pull you over. Even if he did and you were drunk as a skunk, lack of probable cause would lead to an exclusion of evidence of anything after that. They couldn't prosecute you.
Sorry. Legal nerding out. Also. This is in no way saying anyone should do this and if you do this F you. You still have to be sober watching this robot drive you home. But imagining a future with no drunk driving and no one being hurt is kinda cool.
This scenario, or similar, is why I'm considering a Tesla. But for seizures, not drinking. Since you guys are familiar with the actual use of the feature, maybe I can ask for opinions on here. I have been adequately managing my seizure issue for about 20 years with zero breaks since being on a specific medication. However, since ACA came along I've been dropped by countless insurances and have fought for keeping my meds literally every year due to how expensive it is. That said, eventually ill have to either ween off of it or switch to generics because of how badly ACA screwed up healthcare and my life overall (not getting political, but this has been an ongoing hell that is only getting worse and worse), which I really hesitate to do since it took me a long time to finally find something that works and I don't want to mess it up. While sorting out my meds back in undergrad, I had a seizure while driving and refused to drive for 2 years after finding the current meds that worked to be safe. Because of that I won't put anyone in a dangerous situation by driving while sorting out the medication issue now. And along comes the FSD option to save the day. Maybe...?
So...background of my situation above out of the way...what would the car do if I were driving and I had a seizure? It would be the same circumstance as passing out while drunk. Would the car just keep doing its thing on its own? Would it pull over and stop? It would be amazing if I could drive without fear of hurting someone or myself, and this could eventually give a realistic option of transitioning to meds without literally being stuck without any sort of transportation option, which is the reality I'm facing otherwise.
