That was fast! I take it you didn't use the referral code I sent you?

I did not -- I couldn't use it and a different discount I had, together, and the value of one was over the value of the referral.

Left the Tesla at covered outdoor parking at the airport for 5 days. No charge loss. Got off the plane, turned on air conditioning. 74% down to 73% with cooling from 115 degrees to 68 degrees.

A guy on the politics board was trying to say one of the problems with owning a Tesla was "coming back to a dead battery at the airport."

Cabin overheat protection does use some battery, but it can be disabled and shuts off automatically under 20% battery.

I think it also disables after 12 hours of being parked.

This is where someone reads a headline story where this did in fact happen and then just assumes this is true for all EVs when it's simply not the case. If you arrive at the airport with a very low battery AND the temperature is below freezing AND you'll be leaving the EV in long term parking for an extended period of time then you do in fact risk bricking the battery. In all other scenarios, your EV is completely fine being left in an airport parking lot for an extended period of time.

EVs do require just a little bit more proactive forethought than ICE in order to not only maximize their benefits but also not inconvenience your life. Remembering to plug in your EV at home or planning for when/how to charge on a long road trip are examples. I remember someone here started a thread where they admitted to being horrible on planning and always having trouble with simply charging their phones so should they get an EV. And for someone like that an EV is simply too much to handle for them if they cannot do basic planning and forethought in their daily life.

when i got my 3 in 2018, the houston summer heat caused 20+ miles of range loss daily from cabin overheat protection. turned that off pretty early on. no adverse effects that i can tell, 121k miles and 8 years later

I use mine daily but have always wondered if the continued us of the AC on then off all day long would wear it out faster.

Yeah, I always hit the AC as I'm walking out of my office and it cools down before I get to the car.

If I'm out running errands I'll just leave the AC on when I go inside a store.

FSD is great for younger female drivers as well. Daughter had multiple accidents in recent years, she leased a Model Y with FSD and loves it. It is safer and her insurance is cheaper.

Sorry. Had to be done.

used to be statistically that young males were much worse. But now females have caught up b/c texting/social media and driving.

at least that's what someone posted here a while back.

I believe the big drain from prolonged parking is Sentry mode. I have parked for 1 wk and lost about 70 miles but mode turns off after range drops to a certain amount.

Regardless, you do have to do a small amount of planning but I doubt you will ever get to your car with it being a brick b/c all of the major drains get turned off way before it bricks out for 99.99% of situations.

Good thing w/ Tesla is you can quickly look at your car on your phone and adjust as needed.

The glare was a big issue early on when FSD would disable but no more. This makes lots of sense looking at the photo. Anyone who thinks they can see the world better or faster than carmera+AI is sorely mistaken.

When I am hit with glare like the photo, I have to slow down. FSD does not.

The air conditioned front seats of my Tesla Y are a joy to have. (Have had my Y for around three weeks)

I need to find a location in Austin to tint the car, both windows and glass on top. I made a trip to Fbg this past Saturday and it go hot as hell inside. I have put shades on inside to help. I will vent the windows and start cooling down prior to leaving from my morning of volunteering at Austin Humane Society.

I used sunbusters on 183 for 2 model Ys, and a ram 3500 for ceramic

I have been really happy with them.

Of course it is freaking expensive for all glass including windshield and roof.

How expensive are we talking? Ballpark? How necessary is the tint?

It's critical in my opinion. I think paid around $900 without doing the front window. Don't quote me on that, though. Might've been a little cheaper, but not much. Just make sure you take it to a place that knows how to do frameless windows.

I should add that I did not do the roof. I find the factory roof tint on my 2025 3 is fine 95% of the time.

I tinted my doors as dark as they could so it but I didn't do the roof. For the roof I used this last summer, took it out in November and will put it back in probably this weekend. It works well and doesn't eliminate the sunroof and fact I like with the glass roof.

$1750 for the highest heat shielding ceramic tint. for all glass. The moonroof is half of that because they have to take down the surrounding trim to install the film.

I won't own another car that doesn't have it. I immediatly notice when I am in a car without it. The heat difference is very very real.

Last year I paid about $600 for ceramic on all the side/back windows. I then got a shade for the roof and that made a huge difference last summer. I'm going in this week to get a 70% ceramic on the windshield for about $300. I was sitting in the parking lot of my daughter's school and was just getting baked through the windshield at pickup and that made me pull that trigger. I've thought about just tinting the roof glass but I've heard mixed things about that.

Do the Model Ys not have that incredibly good tint the Model X has? The tint on our X is so good I can look at the sun through it, but it isn't overly dark. Maybe previous owner had ceramic tint installed and it wasn't disclosed?

Yeah, so do I. I figure driving around Houston it's a matter of when, not if I use that coverage.

I paid $2,300 for Tesla to replace my MY windshield and got reimbursed for that minus deductible when I made the claim.

Who offers this $2 monthly insurance for windshields? That sounds like a steal of a deal right now

I pay $16 to Tesla. It was $12 when I signed up but they've raised the price.
