With USAA here are my 6-month premiums:
2016 Jeep - $715
2021 Honda Odyssey - $820
2026 Model Y - $1,245

This is with the same coverage on all vehicles.

USAA was just a bit cheaper for me than Tesla's quote.

Any Tesla owners have tire recommendations for RWD Model 3?

This is helpful - somewhat in line with expectations for mine. I commute just over 60 miles a day and i would expect my premium to be higher, significantly.

If you asked me last year i wouldn't have thought i would have even considered one but it pencils out for me.

Speaking of, it was the weirdest process of my life. Arguably very, very easy. I'm just used to haggling for hours and having every option offered while choking down a stale cup of coffee.
Buying a Tesla is about as easy as going to Best Buy and picking up a preorder at customer service.

Buy online. Tesla app gives you step by step "to do" including how to pay/insurance coverage. You set up a pick up time. An hr before pick up, you get a message to click when you get there. You walk to where new cars are where a guy will point you to your car and answer any questions. If not, you jump in and drive off.

I spent about 30 minutes to buy my MX, 10 minutes at Tesla showroom to pick the car up. No more need to go to DMV. No paper to sign, no one to meet. Everything is done online. Plates came to my home in 1 wk.

Picked up my model y launch edition today. Everything works great. No surprises there. But the FSD - holy cow. I picked it up at 1960 and 290. I enabled full self drive on the 290 on ramp and didn't touch the wheel again until I got to my house in Needville. It handled 290 to the beltway to 59 out to the boonies perfectly. I don't care what other posters say, this is the future.
You are much braver than I would have been on a first drive. But those who say that FSD is not the best autonomous driving system have never seriously used it. You now are able to start FSD from a park position.

One thing I have yet to understand is what it does when it gets to the destination. I have went to the mall and it parked for me. Went to costco and it didn't.

My new MX runs 1200/6 months. People say Tesla are more expensive but my 2008 Honda Odessey runs about 800/mo which is similar given the value of both cars.

Yeah, it seems like even in almost identical parking situations it makes different decisions. Now if all I have to do is park, that's fine with me, but it's interesting that it's not consistent. As far as going from parked to on the road and navigating even a normal situations, it's shockingly good.

Wish they'd make the Model Y a little bit more traditional SUV looking/size. The slope at the back just kills the size of say a single item you can shove in the back.

With the seats laid down there really is a whole lot of room in the back. It's not full sized for sure, but there's a lot of space.

Ordered mine today but slowed by changing the financing from Tesla to USAA. I did notice they had some inventory ordered though buyer backed out. Looks like they may have my spec ready sooner than expected.

FWIW order to delivery is about 2 weeks. Looking forward to the new drive. All the talk about Tesla terrorism is no bother, it's almost exclusively a commuter car and the town we live in is very conservative.

100% agree. My wife and I nearly bought a Y maybe 6 months ago during one of the 0.99% APR promos, but changed our mind when we checked it out at a tesla store (and the trip to the store was intended to be a perfunctory box check before ordering). We've got an 80 pound dog, and when we looked at the trunk in person, we weren't sure she'd even fit in the back with the seats up.

I'm sure the sloped back gives it another 10-20 miles of range, but I wish they would flatten the roof and increase the size of the battery to offset the range loss.

Picked mine up, it was part of about 30 deliveries for the group. They had an American flag hanging from the rafters and mine happened to be underneath it. Cool experience

I'm pretty close to buying a used Model 3 directly from Tesla.

I was pretty set on getting the Long Rage for the dual motor and the extra range but I'm starting to talk myself into the RWD. The '22s and '23s I'm looking at were made with the LFP batteries which Tesla says to charge to 100%, at least weekly if not more often. So the daily real range ends up being pretty close to a LR in reality.

Curious on anyone's thoughts.

Also, for those that have bought used directly from Tesla they've started adding actual photos of the car on the website.

I think it really just depends on your daily driving needs. I'm guessing you aren't driving 250+ miles a day so that milage doesn't really matter a whole lot. I went with AWD because I live in Colorado and want it for the snow (and it's solid), but if I didn't I wouldn't hesitate to get the RWD.

Only other thing I would suggest looking at is how you will charge it. I go into my office 2 days a week and they have free level 2 chargers so I can get it to 80% on those days and never really have to charge at home. If I do, I just use the regular travel charger and didn't spring for the L2 at home. I get about 1% charge per hour so definitely not fast but good enough to top up a little. If for some reason I need more, there are plenty of paid L2's around I could use. Those home chargers are like $400 + permits and if you need to pay an electrician. Figure I can charge quite a bit to break even on that.

I finally convinced the wife to let me sell her Ford Explorer and we leased a Model Y LR-RWD. Should pick it up here sometime in the next couple of weeks. $350/month for a lease for 36 months seemed like a good deal to me.

Arguably just ready to move on from 2021 built ford as it was kinda having quality issues that I've chalked up to being built during the pandemic. But I also didn't want something to break on the ford and be stuck with a costly repair.

Turning 55 soon and the ole Porsche Boxster is getting tired and I'm getting tired of getting in and out of a low car. I have a Nissan Titan diesel and I really shouldn't be driving that commuter as much as I do. But it is so much more comfortable.

Thinking about a Model 3. Trying to decide between the RWD and the sport one. I will definitely get the autodrive or whatever it is called. My work is about 25 miles and I usually take the truck down to the GA coast, towing something. GF has a Subaru and we take that on long trips too so I 'm not worried about that.

I'm a huge fan of awd, but there's a $5K savings on the RWD, little bit more range, and not too much of a hit on the 0-60.

Here's my referral code, which will get you 3 months of full self driving to try out. I've found that I prefer the enhanced autopilot, which keeps you in a lane and slows down/speeds up when needed. It will not change lanes, turn, or stop at red lights (but will sound the alarm if you don't slow down).

Noooo. I did that one time with a Jaguar XF Supercharged. I would have sold my first-born son if I had one for that car.

Edit: and I know this is way more acceleration. Also, last time I bought a car I planned to check out the base model Porsche Boxster first before test-driving a 911. It was 9,000 miles used at a Mitsubishi dealership and they didn't want me to go, so they gave me a hell of a deal on it. I knew what would happen if I test drove the 911.

I have a Model Y Performance and the ride is way too rough.

I'd go w/ the Long Range AWD and pay for the acceleration boost.

How do you do that? Is that just choosing the second option? There are three options. RWD, RWD2 and Performance.

It's a software add-on that you buy through the app or the car's screen once you take delivery and from what I remember w/ the Y it closes the gap by around 50% between the Long Range AWD & the Performance.

I went w/ the Performance cause I liked the speed as well as wheels and other aesthetic upgrades.

Quote:

The boost provides improved 0-100km/h (0-60mph) performance, bumping the 2024 Model 3 LR from 4.4s to 3.8s. The 2024 Performance version comes in at a blazing fast 2.9 seconds, so while it isn't equivalent to just buying a performance variant in the first place, it is still a noticeable and significant upgrade.

Whoa. They have a promotion for 0% interest for 60 months. I love ChatGPT and how it can do quick calculations. I save $5,400 (or more, depending on inflation) by taking the loan and keeping the money even in my current money market fund rather than paying cash.

I am a 6'4" tall dude and 34. I test drove a buddy's model 3 and thought the car was pretty low to the ground with respect to getting in and out of. It's a sweet car but if you're groaning and grinding like I am to get in and out, may want to test drive to check it out.

I'm about 2 months into my 21 Model Y AWD with performance boost and FSD. Got it for $25k. I have a landcruiser and MX5, which I think are the best in class for what they do.

I think I am enjoying this car more than I even did those 2 when I got them. I got intrigued by the reports I read about how cheap they were used, researched and got comfortable with the reliability, and was hooked by the FSD and stereo on the test drive.

I don't see myself giving up the gas cars but plan to own a Tesla with FSD as my daily forever or until someone else comes along to beat its FSD.

Mine was under warranty and I had a few small nits to sort out. Tesla service has been generally fantastic, although in full disclosure I live 5 miles from the Dallas service center which makes service easy ( I went to the plano location once and it was not good).

One under reported benefit is that as a top selling car worldwide, there is a crazy amount of third party cheap accessories for the vehicle on Amazon and Alixpress. I bought everything possible to spruce up the interior and it solved my biggest gripe, all the cheapo plastic.

I don't know if they are doing the 48 hour test drives still but suggest to anyone to go try it out for either an hour or 48. Unfortunately there is zero instruction for the test drive and a decent learning curve, so I would do a bit of reading up on the controls before.

You don't get to try out the phone app on a test drive. The phone app is one of the top 5 features. Among many other things, it serves as the key and gets your climate system going well in advance of getting into the car. Literally every time I get in the car this summer, it's already at 70.

FSD is like having your own clean personal uber that doesn't smell like that awful deodorizer they seem to all use. Roadtrips are no more exhausting than watching a movie on the couch.

Charging infrastructure is so prevalent now that getting stuck in low without a charger is no longer a concern. Charging is far better than dealing with the panhandlers at large city gas stations.

My referral code for anyone who buys and finds this helpful. Gets you 3 free months of FSD

https://ts.la/hudson123570

Also to anyone considering an S or X, most of the repair headaches you hear about on Teslas are on items specific to those 2 cars. IMO the extra features aren't worth those maintenance issues.

There is kind of an anomaly right now in the base model 3 versus y. The model 3 RWD is fairly stripped down from the Model 3 AWD. The model y RWD has all the options of the AWD except AWD.

The model y RWD is only like $3-4k more than 3 RWD and a much better deal IMO and will have that much or higher resale down the road.

Dang it. That Out of Spec youtube video pushed me over the edge. Performance Model 3 FSD on order. Plus keeping my money on the stock market or even money market for 60 months no interest, plus I had ChatGPT run detailed calculations on cost per mile, maintenance, depreciation, insurance.

No brainer with what I was comparing. I'm saving a TON of money over the next five years if this car works out.

Gotta wait 2-4 weeks to receive. Boo.

Should get it right around my bday tho. Whoop.
