I would make three points:
1. I think one has to defer to Arsene Wenger's expertise in not winning European titles.
2. I also don't recall any outrage when West Ham got into Europa by winning the Conference League despite being near relegation the year they won it.
3. I think everyone knows why this is suddenly a problem, and no one really thinks the problem is Spurs (North London Derby notwithstanding).

Champion of a full European tournament deserves to be in "Champions League" more than a 4th place team in a league, but that's just my opinion.

Seems his opinion is driven primarily by the fact that there are already going to be five English teams in the CL. Would be pretty stupid to change the rule so that it only applies if your league doesn't already have X teams in the CL so I'm certain that UEFA will do it.

Yeah but it's always been set so that the country with the Europa winner gets an additional team for many years now. Whether the CL allocation is 4 or 5 before Europa isn't affected by teams being in the bottom half of the table having the ability to win in. And Sevilla was 12th in La Liga the last year they won.

If this were legitimately his concern, he should be pointing at Chelsea or Forest. But, you know, not a peep there, is there?

Edit: Apparently there was a cap under the old structure that kicked in when one association had teams win both Champions League and Europa League and both finished outside the top 4 in their domestic league (I.e., you couldn't get six). I don't think that ever became a reality.

It actually did back in 2012. Chelsea won the CL but didn't finish in top 4. So they advanced to next season's CL at the expense of England's 4th place team...which fittingly was Tottenham.

Any time the ball is played back to Yoro he's under immediate pressure and being forced into a bad pass. Same thing they did to him in the first leg.

Also happened in 05. Liverpool won Istanbul but finished 5th. Uefa gave them special dispensation to join in qualifying rounds and then thereafter previous season's CL winner got an auto bid to group stage.

I think the main argument I've heard about this issue is that with (1) a few more teams making the Champions League that would have been in the Europa League (CL is like 5 or so teams larger now) and (2) without eliminated Champions League teams going down to the Europa League…the Europa League just isn't as difficult or as high quality a competition as before.

I still like the idea of the champion of this playing themselves into the Champions League but Wenger's not alone in questioning the EL at the moment, whatever his motivations are or are not.

I think he's being asked to play a role this season that he virtually never played at Lille. He's adapted pretty well I think but yeah, he's clearly not as comfortable on the ball/high up the pitch as he could be.

That's on Maguire for that sloppy pass (though I'm not sure why Onana reached with two hands). It's been very sloppy and they finally punished it.

I'm not sure what the xG was on the Garnacho chance but had to be at least 3x higher than the goal they actually scored and he didn't even manage to force a save.

I'd like to take this time to once again point out that Victor Lindelof, the soon to be 31 yr old defender that has barely played this season and who has already been told that he will be let go on a free when his contract ends in June, has started our two most important games of the entire season. Suboptimal.
