Man, that's a tough one to lose.
NOOOOO! Readfields is one of my favorite places in town.
What a blow. One of my all time favorites, probably in there several times a week.
Oof. Thats hard to lose. I hate it when long time family businesses die off like this.
Every time we are in there (2-3x a month) they are busy.
Well good for the Ruffinos! I will miss the Readfields retail store (the cheddar chicken salad) but they deserve the joy of retirement. Congrats!
Yeah, that's going to leave some big shoes to fill. But not unexpected after they sold Ruffino a few years ago.
Only place in town I could get outside skirt steak and Hanger steak. This hurts.
I've lived here 18 years and never set foot inside Readfield's until last week. I feel like I killed it.

Little Readfield story.
Back in the early 80s they did not used to be open on Saturday mornings. Well my parents loved the meat at Readfield but they worked 7am to 7pm M-F and never could get in to Readfield during the week. One day my mom called the store from work and spoke to Larry Ruffino . Larry gave her his home phone number and told her "just call me any Saturday morning you want and I'll be glad to open up the store just for you and sell you what you need". So she did just that. For about 3-4 years she called him once a month on Saturday mornings at home and he'd come open the store just for her just so she could buy her meat from there. It was a 10-12 minute transaction and they'd both go home after that. That was special small town service back then!
(Eventually I believe they did go to Saturday hours as part of regular business)
To this day we buy a lot of our meat from there . We are going to miss it.

If anyone knows where to find boudin similar to Readfields let me know. I got their mild smoked a lot. Feels like everything else I find either lights me on fire or doesn't have any flavor. Their mild smoked was money for me.

You might try one of the vendors at the two Saturday farm markets. I've had good luck with hard to get cuts.
I get where you're coming from though; Readfields was the only place I'd buy oxtails for coda alla vaccinara.
I got 4 cases of smoked venison sausage this season and give used to give a lot away. Dang it.
Damn.....where will I be able to get a good muffuletta?

Noted. It's sad to see this becoming more common. Just incorporate the cost of cc processing into menu prices. It's not that hard. It happened for many, many years. I'm not sure what changed (besides corporate greed).
A new 12 building, 324,000 square foot apartment complex with 10 residential buildings called Ariza Summit Crossing is planned for College Station. The address is not provided, but I'm guessing it is near Harvey and 30 based on the Summit Crossing reference.

What's going on with the Amazon warehouse or delivery center or whatever it is? I figured we would have Amazon vans delivering packages around town by now but apparently that's not the case?
I have seen white vans with the magnetic sign on the side that looks like the Amazon font.
I have had opportunities for free same day delivery on some stuff and even the picture of where they left the item which is Amazon delivering not USPS.

I had a couple of Amazon packages delivered yesterday. They came from the Humble facility to my house via USPS.
I'm going to guess it will take a while for the franchise to hire/train/retain sufficient number of delivery drivers. I would expect a continual expansion of the area covered/packages delivered while the franchise builds up.
Also, may take some time to get the recognizable Amazon vans. I believe Amazon provides those to the franchise, but I assume Amazon doesn't have parking lots full of unused delivery vans. Would make more sense to either order on demand or better yet have a standing order of X per month and then the franchises are on a waiting list.
I'd also be curious about what the agreement with USPS actually says. Is there some minimum volume that Amazon is trying to balance? I did see that there was some issue between Amazon and USPS over renewal of the agreement several months ago but hadn't heard the outcome, nor do I know when the existing agreement would end.

If junk mail was ever stopped and Amazon stopped using USPS, there would nothing left for the post office to deliver.
They've taken over Amazon deliveries in our area. I was told they're doing an area or zip code at a time. We are in Steephollow. We sometimes get more than one van a day.
Well I am down south and the Amazon facility is way up yonder north so imagine we are down the list …
