18innings. Good thing your not coaching for LSU. Chase Shores would of never been the closer. He gave up 25 runs in his first 40 innings. Continues to struggle and became a shut down closer in Omaha.

Luke gave up 12 all year of which 7 were in 3 games.
- 3 against Vandy only after Moss crapped the bed in the 7th and left two in scoring position with 1 out and Ags up 1 after getting destroyed Fr and Sat. I am sure there wasn't any pressure
- 2 against South Carolina in Game 3 after Patton, Freshcorn, and Wilson all got shelled. Game was pretty much over other than the miracle two GS in an inning.
- 2 against Missouri after Patton had given up 4 in 4.1 inn. in the Sunday must win vs Missouri. He entered with a guy on third and 1 out down by 3-1.

Why didn't he put he more than 18 innings then if he was so good? He struggled with control and struggled with guys on base. Thats not something to skip over.

He had 8.1 innings pitched in conference play across 11 appearances. In that time, he had
- 10.80 ERA
- 1.11 K:BB
- 2.40 WHIP
- 19.8% LOB

Those are not good stats. It's not like his chances went away. He still pitched. He still had control issues. Bringing up Shores is a moot point because it's not like Jackson stopped getting opportunities. He just would get pulled early after showing a lack of control.

No where did I say I didn't want him back. He showed potential at times, but he is not a sure-fire thing to improve from year 3 to year 4 and become a consistent arm.

HE had great difficulty throwing strikes. If you can't throw strikes when you have to, and locate pitches (no control), you can't pitch. That was the problem in top 9 in game 1 MO, and then Earley not recognizing it soon enough to pull him.
Your going to judge his control off of 18.1 mostly high pressure innings. How many times did Earley throw him in with the bases loaded and no outs usually because another reliever like Frescorn, Earleys pet project that was an abomination until Hoover, made a mess of things. Yes I know Jackson caused is own issues at times but it is alot harder to throw strikes when you trying to chip edges because anything put in play scores a run.

And how many times did he manage to get out of those situations? Pretty consistently he failed to. He also led us to those situations at times. If you can't afford to pitch someone in high pressure innings, then they aren't that important of an arm.

I wanted him to stay. Losing him is a bummer, but you can't consider him some proven arm. You wanted to keep him for his potential, not for what he has showcased to this point. Having control issues after 3 years does not have any promise he will figure it out in year 4.

The irony here is incredible based on your previous post about Mikey.

What's going on with UT? Why are there so many pitchers in the portal? Is TV cleaning house?

Hard to say at this point, but it is never a good situation when a team loses that many pitchers. Tony is sometimes a little too honest with the players and they take it to heart. Chase Burns being case in point #1. There is no doubt he would have worked himself into a starting role in 2024, but he was so pissed about the 2023 demotion to closer and the Tony talking to, he bolted to Wake Forest in an instant to finish his college career with nada ribbons/rings or attaboys. However, most importantly for him, he hit the home run with an MLB contract, and ultimately, that is all that really matters.

You talking about my posts regarding retaining Earley or not a month ago? If so I stand by what I said.

I'm not overly upset Earley stayed, but I do think it would have been a better move to cut ties for the right candidate. I still think Mike could be a good coach one day, but the short term damage if he doesn't workout this next year and gets fired kills all program momentum we had from last year's run. The impact of a coach not working out versus one bullpen pitcher is pretty big.

That being said, Earley is staying so he's got my full support. I think he's made good moves so far in the offseason and has done a pretty good job in the portal. It will all come down to how the team performs next spring. I'm hopefully he corrects his mistakes.

Even those that really wanted a coaching change (including me) will support Earley and the team 100%. I think we've done "ok" in the portal. We still need pitching, and a lot of it. The ones we got so far are middle of the road at best IMO. I think we still need a backup C and someone to play 1B.

The way things are most likely going to go next year, you will not even need to say anything bc the ones battling you these past couple of months will most likely be leading the charge for a change.

As you, myself and others have posted; the drop off in weekend starting pitching next year at this time appears it's going to be drastic. I would venture to guess we were one of the very few teams to start the same 3 pitchers every weekend this past season. That's extremely rare and makes it even more of a concern we did not make the post season this past year.

Bollinger and Bailey are both really good pick ups. We even had to beat out LSU for Bailey. There's definitely still work to be done in the portal though.

If we stopped in the portal now, I would be very disappointed. There's still time though and we have managed to beat out elite programs for some of our guys. We will see how our portal class ends up.

This was the most frustrating part of last season and the most concerning heading into next. Our SP was close to elite last year and still wasn't enough to make the postseason. So we are either going to have to greatly exceed our offensive production or somehow find a way to get the same SP as we had last year. Two enormous "IFs".

There's no way the weekend starting pitching will be close. Either the level or the amount of starts made. The second would have to be 100% to even match.

If it's even close to the same level, then Kelly is a bad ass.

Looks like we just got our second catcher.

Zane Becker was a true freshman last year. Played in 20 games for Arkansas, going 8 for 31 at the plate (.258 BA). Did not see action against A&M last year.

Back-up catcher commitment.

As a freshman last year, played in 20 games and hit .258/.425/.453

A little dangerous because I haven't cross checked, but I'd bet those stats are VERY similar to Kaiden Wilson's in '24.

This is what I came here to ask... 19 players in the portal and 16 of them pitchers!??

https://www.on3.com/teams/tennessee-volunteers/news/seven-tennessee-players-enter-transfer-portal-on-monday/

I'm guessing word has gotten out that if you didn't solidify your spot by the end of year 1 or 2 then your being replaced by a portal free agent purchase.

Gasparino being in the portal shocked me a lot.

I've heard that no one in Austin likes Coach Max or the approach POS takes with pitchers.

I just read an article about it and it mentioned Gasparino being one of the ones benched for that baserunning blunder against Arkansas. I tried to look him up on the Longhorn website, but his profile page is already 404'd, lol. Isn't he the one who picked a fight with Kash?

Here is what I found on Kaiden Wilson from 2024. I am showing overall numbers since he had a total of 0.2 IP over 4 appearances in conference.

11 IP over 10 appearances
- 9.82 ERA
- 2.14 K:BB
- 2.18 WHIP
- 67.0% LOB

I would definitely say 2024 Kaiden Wilson was less important to that team than 2025 Luke Jackson to our most recent team. An important distinction though is that Wilson was a true freshman in '24 versus Luke Jackson a redshirt sophomore this past year.

I asked a sip player's dad about it and was told that almost nobody liked Gasparino, his dad is the assistant GM for the Dodgers and he acts like he knows everything. He wanted to get back to California and the team/coachers were more than happy to let him go back there.

As for nobody liking Max or ****nozzle, the dad I know said his son likes Max since they didn't actually have a pitching coach the previous season and something is better than nothing.

Totally consistent with all that I've heard from player parents.

Which is fascinating to me because he was the absolute *darling* of ESPN commentators all of last year, especially in the postseason. Going on and on about how effective he was at calming a pitcher's nerves during a mound visit.

My conspiracy side is saying it all makes sense now....
