I feel like the fanbase is hopeful that things will get better once Jerry is not making all the calls. The more I hear Stephen talk the more I believe that things will be worse.
Would not be surprised at all to see Stephen try to get the family to sell the team and cash out. He doesn't seem to take the job or the team seriously, and I bet he's just biding time waiting for Jerry to pass on. Then he can get all his money without pretending to work
Jerry would roll over in his grave before they sold the Cowboys, and I'm sure he's got mechanisms in place to make that as hard as possible for when he's gone. However, I do find it to be an interesting conversation. Significant assets, while amazing to have from a financial standpoint, become a larger and larger burden on the next generation and the generation after that, so on and so forth, and people become less and less interested in said asset. Just look at the Bears right now. With Virginia McCaskey dying they are at a tipping point in that family where enough people just don't care anymore and selling the team an cashing out seems to be the majority opinion amongst the children and grandchildren with some sort of interest in the team. Now, the McCaskey's aren't near as independently wealthy as the Joneses, but the same concept applies. The Joneses aren't the Waltons, Steve Balmer or David Tepper etc. who have tens of billions of dollars outside of their sports teams. The Cowboys are the Joneses biggest asset.
