They have so much dead money on Dak that it would crater the cap this year, not open cap. If they trade him this offseason, the only future guaranteed money they avoid is $2mm in 2025 base salary and $40mm of 2026 base salary. At the same time, they see $150mill+ in dead money pull forward

So I'm hearing that the WR from Miami (Restrepo) ran a 4.83 forty at his pro day. Bruh! How is that even possible?

I will speak for the former above average skill position HS players... low 4.8 / high 4.7 forty range was a pretty good time for guys like that. How on earth does a highly productive college WR, who has been combine/pro day training for the past 60+ days, run a 4.83.

I believe he rolled his ankle and ran anyway

Reggie has a son that's about to graduate from South Oak Cliff. Talk about **** that makes you feel old.

We don't but he has great hair.
And loves Subway.
So we have a shot.

Any interest in one of our own? And I assume this at 12? He doesn't make it to 44 does he?
Tksymm7

Zero chance making it to 44. He's getting picked between 10-20. I wasn't super onboard with the idea early in the process, but the more this draft gets dissected the more I'd be fine with it. He's got SUCH high upside. Parsons on one side, Stewart on the other pushing the QB into each other, and Stewart is an elite run defender on the edge.

I don't want to use the 12th pick for him, BUT if we trade down and get an additional pick in the second, he might be the best player on the board later in the 1st to help shore up the DL and allowing us to address a combo of OL, WR, and CB in the 2nd depending on who is available.

There have been college guys with low sack totals that turned it on in the NFL. But 3 sacks in 2 years under 2 DCs scares the hell out of me. Physical specimen. But his chances of being one of those Michigan-type busts worries me.

Huge risk in the first round.

Now that I said that, he'll be All Pro…
DannyDuberstein
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Maybe. The one commonality of great disruptive DEs is that first step. And as much of a physical specimen as he may be, that's the one thing I just never saw much that impressed me. I feel like OL were generally able to keep him in front. Some of that was probably a bit of DC philosophy as far as being cognizant of the run, but even on obvious passing "pin your ears back" downs, I rarely saw it.

I hate drafting a workout warrior. I always prefer a guy with production on film.

I don't disagree, but I think Shemar has a really good head on his shoulders and is a very driven player. Taco for instance was just all-around kinda ***** The sacks didn't accumulate here, no arguing that, but I think it was a lot of scheme more than anything.

I think there are really intriguing DE prospects that will be available in the 3rd or maybe even 4th round. I would just rather address other needs, particularly offense in the first couple rounds, unless we add more picks via trade.

Guys who could be available in the 3rd round include Jack Sawyer, Bradyn Swinson, and Kyle Kennard. Outside chances at guys like Landon Jackson, JTT, Princely, or Scourton falling there. Upside plays include Oladejo and Jordan burch.

I suppose DE is one of those spots where you always want more talent... but that's FAR down the list of needs for this team.

Parsons
Sam Williams
Fowler
Kneeland
Payton Turner

These 5 are likely to make the team (I believe we usually only carry 5 or 6) and we have a couple other practice squad guys. If we are going to take a stab at DE, I'd prefer to make it a day 3 pick or priority UDFA.
shack009
How long do you want to ignore this user?
2 of those guys are coming off serious injury and one has yet to do anything significant in the league. Three of them can/will become free agents after this season.

DE is on the list of needs that should be addressed in the first 4 rounds, IMO. Like you say, it isn't dire for this season, but the cupboard needs to start being replenished.

Well it's a good thing Ole Jerry freed up 50 million in cap space this year so we could appropriately staff our roster with quality starters or depth!!!!

Hoping Stephen Jones was driving that G wagon at the Star tonight

Me, a few weeks after the Cowboys freed up $50 million in cap space, still trying to figure out Jerry's definition of "all in".

ESPN mock...we take Abdul Carter with the #2 pick.

Cowboys get: 1-2 (from Browns), 1-15, 2026 third-round pick (from Falcons)
Browns get: 1-12, 5-149, 2026 fourth-round pick (from Cowboys), 2026 first-round pick (from Falcons)
Falcons get: Edge Micah Parsons

That could be a really great scenario IF they Cowboys had shown us any sort of commitment to making this roster better and trying to make a run while we have our franchise QB under contract.

Let's assume Carter is 85% as good as Micah... that would be a great player and we'd save ourselves a TON of cap space over the next 4-5 years. But what's the point in saving all that cap money if the only thing we ever do is bottom feed free agents and use the phrase "we like our guys".

So, knowing how the Cowboys operate, I don't like this move. We absolutely need the #12 pick to be a guy that improves this roster. This trade scenario uses our #12 pick as bait to swap Parsons with a Rookie who is unlikely to be as good. That does NOT make us a better team right now or in the near future.

Micah wants $200 million plus.

So they would have what percent of the cap in three players?
DannyDuberstein
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah, that's basically Parsons for the #2 overall. I'd want more. That said, I am in the camp to trade him. He has not been productive from December on, except in the season he missed 6 weeks in the middle and the season was lost by December.

In 2 years it will be like 33% of the cap. The cap is going up $15 million plus each year. It's the reason why waiting to do the deals is so dumb. You're going to do the deal anyway, just do it earlier so you can save a few million here and there instead of having to go bigger than the deal that just got done around the league.
jr15aggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Correct.

It's the same reason why you re-sign Bland RIGHT FRIGGIN NOW!!! Everything I hear is that this might be Diggs' last year with us. OK, that's fine, but that means we need to commit to Bland long term.

We know Jerry/Stephen are NOT going to pay a free agent CB, not to mention that good/healthy CBs are very rare in free agency, and Bland is only going to get more expensive.

I feel like the fanbase is hopeful that things will get better once Jerry is not making all the calls. The more I hear Stephen talk the more I believe that things will be worse.

Would not be surprised at all to see Stephen try to get the family to sell the team and cash out. He doesn't seem to take the job or the team seriously, and I bet he's just biding time waiting for Jerry to pass on. Then he can get all his money without pretending to work

Same thing was said about Al Davis and the Raiders... boy they sure have turned it around after the son took over!

Jerry would roll over in his grave before they sold the Cowboys, and I'm sure he's got mechanisms in place to make that as hard as possible for when he's gone. However, I do find it to be an interesting conversation. Significant assets, while amazing to have from a financial standpoint, become a larger and larger burden on the next generation and the generation after that, so on and so forth, and people become less and less interested in said asset. Just look at the Bears right now. With Virginia McCaskey dying they are at a tipping point in that family where enough people just don't care anymore and selling the team an cashing out seems to be the majority opinion amongst the children and grandchildren with some sort of interest in the team. Now, the McCaskey's aren't near as independently wealthy as the Joneses, but the same concept applies. The Joneses aren't the Waltons, Steve Balmer or David Tepper etc. who have tens of billions of dollars outside of their sports teams. The Cowboys are the Joneses biggest asset.

There's no way Stephen sells the Cowboys. Just get that pipe dream out of your heads.

Our only hope of new ownership in the next 20+ years is if Stephen comes out and does some dumb **** like Snyder did and the owners force him to sell.
No matter what!
Epstein didn't do, you know, the thing...
