Just take Ewers and a TE at this point. The entire fanbase and every draftnik has been adamant Dallas was going to take a WR only to turn around and take zero. Feels like a spiteful draft, lol

Martinez and Brashard Smith gone. Still a couple RBs I'd be fine with. Also Tez Johnson and Restrepo would be fine with me.

My bad, I thought Dike had both TDs. He was 6-91-1 so about the same.

Dan Jackson to the Lions is perfect

Badger was great at ASU in 23. Wouldn't mind him at all either.

Smith seemed redundant after taking blue. Fast pass catching rb. Martinez was the thunder I thought Dallas could use.

Agree on restrepo. Damn the 40 time. As far as Tez, dude is 150lbs. That's scarier than a slow 40 time

Well for some reason the Bucs felt the need to draft Egbuka in the 1st and now Tez.

Ok get restrepo please

Ricky White just went and he would have been interesting. I think he blocked a ton of punts.

Welp, another RB…that no one wanted

Hope restrepo is at 247

Yeah I like the size. Just always worries me when you see that much production, but such a slide. We should have a great comp at RB by committee though

This , for sure, means the end for Vaughn. I'm sure Philly will pick him up and he will be the next Sproles.

Wouldn't mind Cobee Bryant either. He was awesome a year or two ago, not sure what happened to him this year.

We must be signing a vet or trading next year picks for another WR…

I think they're legitimately going to give the guys they have a fair shake. I don't think this is a good idea, but not much we can do now. Should also be noted that outside of Golden at 12, the draft really didn't fall well for us to take receivers. Our second and third picks were just way too good of a value to pass on for a receiver.

They believe Mingo is legit and he's not. Hopefully next draft jerry doesn't tell everyone about a receiver they love, so teams trade up to take him. I don't see this team jumping the eagles and redskins this season. Probably picking mid round again next year.

I think this as well. Jerry is probably mad everyone had him taking a receiver in the 1st and no one gave him any credit for already getting the "awesome" Mingo. So he throws a tantrum and refused to draft a WR at all

Just dropping the monthly reminder that Jerry Jones has been the Cowboys draft equivalent of the English monarch since 2014. I know the meme is fun but after being out of date for over a decade the yucks start to wane. Stephen and Will Mcclay pat Jerry on the head and tell him to sit down these days when he decides to have an opinion in the war room.

And the funny thing is the people who either don't know that, or do and just don't care, will come back and say "you're just blindly defending the organization" when in reality what I'm saying is actually more terrifying. In their fantasy everything has the chance to improve when Jerry dies. I'm saying Jerry has been functionally dead from a draft and overall personnel acquisition standpoint for a long time already.

Then swap Stephen for Jerry in my prior statement. My only hope for the future is that Stephen steps back and hires a GM when Jerry passes on. I get big trust fund baby vibes from Stephen, and I think he's only this involved to stay on Jerry's good side

Stephen will have the opportunity to drop the facade when Jerry dies and make McClay (or someone else) the GM both in practice and in name. The concern is that Stephen has in fact been the primary driver of the "stingy" free agency practices we've seen in the last 10-15 years. He is very averse to risk and has so much PTSD from Jerry's free agency habits of the 90s and 2000s I worry any GM will have to fight for control of the purse strings.

The wild irony of all this is that for years when Jerry was actually calling all the shots (post-Jimmy Johnson through 2013 or so) the problem was our ****ty drafting. We went all in through FA and trades (Deion, Donaldson, Glover, Rocket, Galloway, Roy Williams, TO, Anthony Henry, Hamlin, Leonard Davis, etc.) and most of those big signings were really good to great players for Dallas. But we absolutely sucked at drafting and valued flashy positions over the lines of scrimmage.

Now Dallas is by most metrics the second best drafting team in the league behind Baltimore since 2014, but we won't supplement that with FA. Now the current way of things is better as demonstrated by being a competitive to very good every year since in which we didn't lose our starting QB for the season, but it's not been enough. We just don't have the barren wastelands of 1997-2005 or 2010-2013 anymore. When you draft really well you always have enough talent to be competitive assuming you have a competent QB, but you can't win that way alone anymore unless your QB is of the Mahomes/Brady transcendent ilk.

I think they went by their draft board.

The only real odd move they made was the trade up for Shemar James.

They have to get an injured but uber talented player to stash every year.

From the perspective of getting value from where the guys were drafted, the Cowboys did well. However, the guys we drafted didn't fill our most glaring needs - WR and RB. But not being able to get the players you need is a result of having 31 other teams drafting from the same pool of resources; you just get beaten to the punch.

Also, are you willing to reach for a player that you don't rate as highly just to fill a need? Would Egbuka or Hampton be deserving of being picked at 12? Some might say that would be too high to draft those guys.

I feel like a huge aspect of this is if they can unlock Mingo. If he can start to progress, this could be a home run of a draft.

I went back and watched some of his pre draft stuff and several folks mentioned he is a bit of a project. So, it shouldn't be a huge shock that he wasn't great out of the gate. He really couldn't be in a much better spot to grow. He's got a high quality QB and a stud #1 to work with.

No confidence in Mingo whatsoever. He was terrible his first season, and this has all the makings of a terrible trade for the Cowboys.

I hope I'm proven wrong.

Just glad they are gambling with 3rds instead of 2nds.

He just turned 24 and he's an Ole Miss receiver who was never taught to be a technician. There's a reason he was an early 2nd round pick with his upside.

The smart money is probably on him not figuring it out, but he's not a write off right now either.

While we usually do this sort of thing, I think Revel is a little different than what we've seen in the past. For starters he tore his ACL only and had surgery in October. ACL's aren't what they use to be and guys come back 100% more times than not. Plus his surgery was done by our team doctor and i he should be mostly ready for the season. Secondly, Revel was a first round lock and likely a top 20ish pick if he didn't get hurt. He was stupid good value in the 3rd.
