Watersnakes on the normal walk. As the pond dries up the size of the snake goes down as well

My third juvenile glossy snake in as many weeks on my porch. Each one has seemed smaller than the last, so I think it has been three individual snakes rather than the same one three times. Still haven't come across mom and dad.

I was actually impressed siri offered it as an identification behind the prairie rattler.

I ran your picture above into the Seek app (https://www.inaturalist.org/pages/seek_app) and it identified the snake as a Great Plains Ratsnake. When I look at an image of the great plains ratsnake from here - https://mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/field-guide/great-plains-ratsnake it looks to my untrained eye just about identical to the snake in your hand.

What keys did you use to identify your snake? Is it more a location thing than anything? Side by side screen capture below with the ratsnake image I mentioned.

This is one that I am not able to distinguish. Great plains rat snakes, western rat snakes with tan vs the usual green color, prairie kings, and these all look very similar to me, especially when young.

I posted these on both the Texas Snake Identification fb group and here, and experts in both groups ID'd as glossy snakes. I'll also note all of these have been caught at night, and I believe I read that glossy snakes are nocturnal.

Guardian of the Gas Cans…….

After stopping my truck, I opened the door and thought I heard a loud cicada. Then I realized what was making the noise.

One of the most aggressive diamondbacks I have ever encountered.

He looks pissed.

Wonder if they've got a nest nearby.

Stephens County. First snake I have seen all summer, and I work outdoors. It figures that one would show up in the most unlikely place. One of the heaviest rattlesnakes I have ever seen. BTW, he is coiled up on a 2x8 board
.
I rarely kill any rattlesnake, but I will not allow one that large in a densely-populated neighborhood where kids are walking and riding bikes.

Wife almost stepped on a baby rattler on Friday night in sandals! Just FYI that babies are out and I'm guessing where there is one, there are more. Not sure how bad a bite is from one of these small ones, but wear your boots folks!
