I have no idea. I have never seen one that looked like it in Texas. Was probably 6-8" long. Wife would tell you it was 10", but that is just how I have her trained.Mr. Frodo said:

Earless Lizard? I thought it was a crevice spiny at first but I don't think it is. I don't really know my TX lizards…

I believe you are correct. I'm about 95% on greater earless lizard. Their undersides are pretty spectacular especially during breeding season. 12f is definitely the authority on that one.

Yes, Texas earless lizard. About as fast as a lizard can get, and common throughout west Texas and the more open areas of the hill Country. Males have alternating black and white tails and wave them to communicate, pretty cool/funny to watch; hence the nickname "zebra-tail."

Thanks for the confirmation. This guy was pretty chill and let me get within about 3' of him to take the pic. I think it must have been pretty confident in the camouflage, or maybe just wasn't warm enough to want to run too fast.12f Mane said:

Yep, maybe a little of both this time of year. They are one of a few natives that can handle the real summer heat and still be active.

Also pictured: Acme Brick, heritage red. Typical of small communities, rural farms, or urban environments and considered to be harmless. While rare, sometimes found in the deserts of the southwest where it poses a great threat to canis latrans.

Looks like things are finally starting to wake up
Yea, wife and I walked up on a massive garter snake yesterday. Probably close to 30" but it was gone before I could get my phone out.
We found this little ring neck today and it was clear that my daughter did not inherit her mom's innate fear of snakes. Later at dinner, my son added a side note to the blessing, and thanked God for snakes.
Personally, I could live without 'em. But I'm glad my kids didn't react like their mom.
