This a king snake eating a very large copperhead in my backyard, just 22 feet from the back porch. I had to herd the dogs inside the house so they would not disturb him.

Was in Houston area for a training and went for a run and came across this critter in Spring Branch.

I know they're docile but this guy didn't want me to mess with the sidewalk much so I cut a 4 mile run down to 3.

ETA: this is the second time in a year that I gave some good distance with a coral and it was a bit more aggressive than I'm used to when I tried to move past it.

I'm not worried about about them catching me, just that they have come after me.

Neighbor calls wanting me to tell them if they had a bad snake. She handed me this bucket.

I let the little dude go back.

I hardly ever find snakes at the house. Certainly not one of these.

She got it in a bucked with the grabbers and escorted it back to the preserve behind the house

From my experience, hognose snakes typically have similar coloration many times to the areas they inhabit - therefore, it makes sense that many other species would have similar coloration, due to having better chances of evading predation and becoming more common in the local population.

Returned from a trip. Pool was a mess. Cleaning it was a bit… unusual. Ribbon snake, from what I gather. Let him finish his lunch then tossed him over the back fence. I'm Team Snake, btw. Hate those damn frogs…

You might want to look for one of those "Christmas tree" baskets to help avoid a surprise like that...
