Angle of the head too, cottonmouths and copperheads tend to have their heads at a steeper angle than their non-venomous counterparts

Ran up on this guy yesterday while at deer camp. As soon as I cranked the mower he dropped the lizard and crawled up in the engine block. After a couple pokes with a stick he went on about his way.

This poor guy met his unfortunate demise while I was trimming next to the house. Pretty snake. I'm guessing he's a timber rattler. Never seen one before.
