Not going to dispute a hognose ID with you. I agree in the tail not being right for a hognose and more like a water snake.

Male hognoses have longer tails, but not that long. And their tail from their vent is markedly skinnier than their body. Females have short tails.

That tail screams water snake.
Agree. it also has heavily keeled scales that would suggest water snake as well with a blotched pattern thats really hard to decipher.

I support water snake. Definitely looks like nerodia head and scales. The mud/slime/blood on the body make it impossible for me to determine PB or DB.

Usually my dogs just bark at them but unfortunately the more ornery the snake is, the more excited and enthusiastic the dogs get about going after it.

Therefore, most likely definitely watersnake, and not hognose.

It's a water snake 100% but has a funky pattern/color. Either PBWS or BBWS

I think that is an African Spur thighed tortoise

Not sure though. But its definitely a tortoise and not a box turtle

Ironically, that is a South African neighbor buddies pool 5 houses down from me. Our yards fall off 6 or 7 feet into George Bush Park.

Would surprise me if someone dumped him too. Barker Reservoir was my old stomping ground as a kid. I've caught a lot of Cottonmouths and water snakes back there. Saw a ton of pigs and deer too.

my cousin found one of those, or one very similar, in fayette county. he said it was a texas tortoise, but this thread said african tortoise as well.

Top one is Plain Bellied/Blotched/Yellow Belied water snake

Second one is Broad-Banded Water snake

Both nonvenomous

It's the night of the snakes, you already know what I found. And a baby duck with its mamma. Wife found a large snake skin but difficult to tell the size with it being in a creek for a while
