Casa Rod was the bomb. Kind of like Jesse's before there was a Jesse's. Great service and a very loyal customer base. Sounds like all that is gone now.
Hermanos Marquez (formerly Mi Pueblito) is my go-to in Bryan/College Station now.Hornbeck said:
I miss Los Norteños…
Now now, that's a bit unfair. We are also saturated with burger places!BucketofBalls99 said:tinybutmighty said:
Taco Crave in Downtown Bryan is always consistent and fresh. They get my vote!
We LOVE Taco Crave!!
Unfortunately the way the economy is going, it's tough for people to get out and pay these prices regularly. As a results, it has to be getting tougher for these places to keep lights on.
Also, couple that with the fact we are saturated with chicken and Mexican food places, it gets a bit boring after a while. I'm sure the Bubba's 33 will probably do just fine since it is something different and offers more variety, but it is an interesting location. But only time will tell.
We will never visit this restaurant at that price point. Nor do I want to dress up for dinner.Hornbeck said:

I'll have to try the boudin kolache at Karma. I love the one at Stella donuts on WJB.
I probably wouldn't get the butter chicken one again, BUT I did have it reheated the next day. I do like their sausage ones as well. I had the sausage gravy but don't really remember. I tried the hamburger one - I would have preferred it more be like taco meat and cheese rather than actual hamburger pieces cut up, but it was still decent. Boudin is still where its at.Hornbeck said:trouble said:

+1 from me.
The sausage gravy, brisket, and butter chicken (yes, Indian) ones are also good.

Another vote for the Boudin kolache at Karma!
And thanks for the info on Blu Fin. I really liked that place, but honestly, I want a glass of wine when I eat sushi. That was keeping me from going cause I know the new owners apparently stopped serving alcohol

Thanks! We have been a few times. I do like their food. I actually loved the ambience of Blu Fin and it was much closer to where I live (South CS). But yes I do go to SM!BlueMiles said:JMac03 said:

Sushi Masa (Texas Ave where Luby's used to be) has wine, in case you have not tried it. Food was ok but it's been so long since I was there, I can't comment on the prices.
Yes, you could easily spend $250, but you could easily spend half that for two people, as well.dubi said:We will never visit this restaurant at that price point. Nor do I want to dress up for dinner.Hornbeck said:

Lotss of people, including me, didn't want to go back to the counter and wait in line to get another beer. Table service may have really helped them.PS3D said:FlyRod said:

I remember how hard Fowl Digits advertised and they clearly wanted to be a chain of some sort but they were markedly more expensive than their competitors they wedged themselves between, weren't that good, and had nothing really good, interesting, or unique going for them. Maybe if they came up with some good sauces, or had saucy waitresses, then maybe things would've been better; at the end of the day it was just a mediocre sports bar.
Did they change their recipes? last time we went it definitely felt like it was an "old person" restaurant. Everything was so bland. but that was a year ago.KidDoc said:
Went back to Fish Daddy's for the first time in years. Had a really good mahi topped with Atchafalaya mix ($19 + 6 for the topping). The fish and the red beans and rice were great, spicier than I expected which is a good thing. The corn side was meh, needed some spice on it or something. The Rev's marg was good as well.
Overall a good seafood option that won't break the bank.

I think their biggest mistake (and other local places succumbed to this too) was that they glommed all over him as if he was legit PR (vs a warning sign to stay away).
His endorsements likely played a role in doing in some otherwise perfectly fine places.
