They do use Monday to clean, but the incident was not the reason. It's a companywide policy that started by giving the staff and facility a break stemming from the extreme amount of business the college station unit does.

One of my sons and I tried a hole in the wall at a Valero gas station on hwy 6 between Bryan and Hearne the other day: Noe's Kitchen. Anyone been?

Burger, wings, loaded fries, and tacos were shared at our table. Hit the spot. Would recommend. I'll try their breakfast tacos next time I'm that way.

It is truly a hole in the wall- you go into the gas station's convenience store, through the hole on the other side of the counter into the restaurant to order, they write up a ticket, you go back through the hole into the gas station to pay for your food- and buy your drinks/beers at the gas station, then back through to a table to eat.

I think I'll become a regular since my current weekend/ future retirement property is out there. There's something nice about grabbing a 24oz can out of the ice bucket in the gas station and paying for my beer and food while the owners are heating up the grill.

Fuego had a couple specials today as they celebrate 15 years in business.

Not bad for being too far from the bypass.

Anyone tried out The Owl in Bryan?

Yes. It's GREAT! The bagel place attached to it is just as good.

Cool

My go-to at SunBeam Bagels is the avocado toast -- a split you-call-it bagel with smashed avocado and two sunny-side up eggs. Solid selection of coffee options. Their food is very reasonably priced as well.

The Owl has typical bar food with one out of the ordinary choice -- fried cauliflower with bang bang sauce.
They have 10 bird-named drinks -- emphasis on gin, tequila or aperol in most of them. Three are coffee cocktails.

The fish tacos were some of the worst I've ever had. My son liked his burger and my wife liked her chicken sandwich but the fish tacos had zero flavor.

Interesting. I've had the fish tacos there once and they were actually quite good. The burgers are the star for sure.

Cocktail list is short but nice. Beer selection is decent. I like the vibe.

but it is becoming more and more difficult to continue. the service has gone downhill.
the food is good. but its never crowded.

the pet peeve in the last 2 weeks is their rationing of silverware.

we asked for silverware and the waitress asked 'how many forks and knives do you need'

they apparently are short silverware because people are stealing them.

Really? read your table, when you have 2 60 yr olds and 2 80yr olds, go ahead and give us 4 forks and 4 knives. and don't be snippy about it.

That's a bizarre stance for a restaurant. Made me think of the Kreutz deal lol.

I've been to Anchor once. We sat at the bar. Service was good. The wings were great. I did make the observation that it was almost empty at lunch time. I wish them well, but they opened up around the same time as Pluckers that has a very comparable wing, a better location, and a much more lively atmosphere. The atmosphere was the deciding factor for us to go to Pluckers over Anchor last Friday night.

Other recent experiences we've had:

Taco Bar: I love this place and hope they do well. Service and food is always top-notch. They're just not in a very visible or easily accessible location.

Gate 12: We gave this another shot for date night the other night. We were disappointed the first time we went soon after they opened. We were disappointed again. While the flavor was ok, my med-rare 12oz ribeye was maybe a half inch thick. Just not a very good cut of meat, especially considering it was $30 with no sides. I think Roadhouse is significantly better and less expensive. My wife got a burger that she said was ok. Neat concept being on the runway (I had ADS-B open on my phone to whole time watching for air traffic), but we probably won't choose to go there again.

If you think roadhouse has good steak?
We'll win this war, but we'll win it only by fighting and by showing the Germans that we've got more guts than they have, or ever will have. We're not going to just shoot the sons-of-b******, were going to rip out their living G*******d guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We're going to murder those lousy Hun c********** by the bushel-f****** basket. War is a bloody killing business. You've got to spill their blood or they will spill yours. Rip them up the belly. Yeah. Just kind of a weird complaint. It's like being upset that a steakhouse isn't open at 6AM.

Not complaining.
Brunch menus are usually different.
This board is full of plebs, they just made fun of me when I criticized H-E-B because they literally didn't understand what supermarkets are supposed to be like. (Why staff left all the comments up on the thread, no idea).
Am I reading this right? Your position is that H-E-B doesn't know what supermarkets are supposed to be like?

You seem to be twisting his words on purposes.

saying: " my med-rare 12oz ribeye was maybe a half inch thick. Just not a very good cut of meat, especially considering it was $30 with no sides. I think Roadhouse is significantly better and less expensive. "

is not saying "he thinks roadhouse good steak".

But it should also be noted that "good steak", Great steak, fantastic steak and unbelievably fantastic steak can all exist.

Bubba's 33
Went for lunch Saturday, got there about 11:30, sat at the bar, no wait. When we left ~12:30, place was packed, decent wait line.

Margaritas were pretty good (the DonJulio special) we both like several other Marg options around town better.

Started with poblano spinach dip, very cheesey, decent, not awesome. The bread was nice, but difficult to dip because the cheese sauce was so thick.

Wife had a crispy chicken salad, nothing special.

I had a bam bam shrimp poboy. Not much positive to say, but there were plenty of shrimp.

Bar staff were friendly and mostly attentive.

Vibe was nice, loved the music videos & sports bar TV's.

Probably not gonna rush to get back there.

Casa Mangiare
Can't say enogh great things about this place. It's pricey but IMO worth it.

We sat at the bar as usual, no wait / no reservations

Service: A+ very attentive

Atmosphere: A+

Bread & oil: A+

Started with Beef Carpaccio: A+ one of the best we've had

Ordered the Fresh Gulf Snapper: best seafood dish in town. That's not necessarily saying much, but this is what I'm used to living in Galveston for 30+ years before moving here.

Wife ordered the Filet & loved it.

We'll be back often. Can't wait to try some of their other options.

Got food to go from Mai Shan Yun (in the old IHOP on University) over the weekend. Everything we got was excellent. The way they package up the food was pretty neat too. I definitely recommend.

Likely. Closest bar to Pebble Creek, Williams Creek, and Stone Forest. Neighbors who drink together don't rat on each other out to the HOA.

Yeah, I was gonna say I noticed several had come back from golf. A lot of health care workers too. Again, it was the bar and happy hour was close to ending. I've never been there where the bar wasn't crowded though.

If you think roadhouse has good steak?

A strange takeaway from my post.

I like Roadhouse. I think their steaks are decent, but there are obviously better choices in the area. They're very consistent in my experience. I know what I'm going to get and believe that their offerings match their price point. Gate 12 has been 0 for 2 for me at a higher price point. So with those things considered, I would choose Roadhouse over Gate 12.
