We have gone a couple time and have tired to like it. The food has been great, but we have had misses on our service the last couple times.

Sorry to hear that. I've eaten there 30+ times and only had questionable service once or twice. The consistency of the food is also arguably the best I've found in town.

I miss the old menu as well. At least they are still doing wine dinners.

Yeah, I know. I need to go to one. I've begged Tom and others for the steak tartare several times. Even had my youngest daughter fake tears once. So good. But I'll still have onion soup (fun fact, the de baca one is pretty good too) and mushroom soup.

We've missed the last several but I think we're going to the Chilean one.

They are usually on a Monday evening. The best way to find out about them is to sign up for the Bistro Club. You'll get an email before it's announced on social media or the website

I miss the Steak Bravette. It was my go to.

Went for the Thursday night filet special and I was disappointed. The cut seemed more like a sirloin than a filet. Maybe just an off night. That won't deter me from going back.

Anyone notice a difference in cut of beef for their filet special?

We finally tried De Baca for dinner. It was lovely! I had a 6 oz filet and Brussels sprouts. Mr. Spike had the beef wellington. We also had the honey chipotle meatballs appetizer. They brought by an amuse-bouche of ahi tuna and later some yeast rolls (that might be the best I've ever eaten). Don't skip the guava lemonade!

Service and atmosphere were excellent. It was very easy to relax and enjoy the evening. The food was hot, fresh and flavorful. It's just a tick pricier than other "nice" places in town but I thoroughly enjoyed it, want to go back, and live pretty close so it's a no-brainer. Brunch is next on my list!

Had no idea this place was here until I found it on google, but if you want to try some great, authentic Filipino food locally - Kuya Walds on Wellborn (next to Potato Shack) is amazing! Food and service are top notch, and the owner is the just the nicest lady. Highly recommend the adobo. Can't wait to go try their longanisa, rice, and egg breakfast

Go check out Bee's Vietnamese Sandwich on Texas Avenue in the Ace Hardware parking lot. Best Banh Mi in town.

It was so go yesterday, I had to go back today. $7.50 sandwiches, can't be beat.

What are their hours? Are they on any social media? I would love to see a full menu.

Went to Maddens at Phillips Event center for dinner. My wife wanted the grilled chicken Caesar salad. We were caught off guard w the new dinner menu. Entrees are from $26 to $43. No sandwiches, burgers or salads w protein. The Southern fried chicken I had from their previous menu was $13.75 (still on the lunch menu) is $26 on the dinner menu.

This will still be a go to lunch spot for us as the lunch menu still has a good variety of soups, salads, sandwiches and burgers.

Yikes! I went once for happy hour after work and didn't pay $$$$$$$ for dinner. They must have changed their prices.

Food prices are insane and getting more insane. I wish everyone in the restaurant biz the best of all luck.

Not that this needs to be said, but a good time to look for bargains and meal deals

That's a little steep for this town.

So if I go get this, tell me what to order. Never had this kind of food before

For the first time, order the combo. Just remove anything you don't like.

Banh mi is a delicious Vietnamese sandwich that has become popular all over the world. Any of the options are probably delicious. The combination might be the best and most traditional if you just want to try something and eat it, but note that this one has pork pate. Banh mi is really a French/Vietnamese fusion. If you don't like pate even at fancy French restaurants, then maybe start with the grilled pork / bbq chicken one? The picked veggies is what makes them good anyway. I bet they're all good though.

Thanks. I don't know that I've ever had Pate. If I don't do the combination, I probably would do the steak one cause I'm not a huge barbecue like sauce type person. But I do want to be open and try new things.

If you have ever eaten liverwurst you have had a poor man's pate. A good pate is spreadable.

it's all about the daikon (pickled veggies; not the Astros ballpark) and the 'house special sauce'. great sandwiches. you can't go wrong if you want to try one.

Never had that either.

I'm just gonna have to roll with it.

Pate…melts fast. It's delicious but be prepared to eat that thing fast. I took mine back to the office and even with ac in the car when I got it there, the pate had kind of become pate butter/grease.

Not gonna lie it was still delicious.

I got the basic pork one but def going back for the combo soon.

A liverwurst, mustard, and onion sandwich on good rye bread with a hearty German beer. That's livin.

Start with the pork one first and work your way towards the combination because the Vietnamese ham isn't for everyone. No BBQ sauce in a typical banh mi sandwich and steak and chicken are not traditional proteins.

Finally tried Marfa. Good drinks, good apps, shrimp in my shrimp and grits overcooked. Luckily, my husband is okay with shrimp more done than I am. CFS is very good.

Finally checked out the reopened Chicken Oil! It was great overall!!

Line was pretty slow, but food came out super fast. Only two registers going and then also did cups and ice which is what seemed to slow folks down.
