Some rumors that Chelsea will pay the penalty fee rather than sign Sancho permanently. Chelsea have to pay 25m GBP if they finish 14th or higher unless they pay a 5m GBP penalty to get out of it (last bit is according to the Ornacle)

Maybe… he's been pretty bad, though, (lately anyway) and he will want most of what he is due for the last year of his contract, which I think is in the neighborhood of 10M GBP. We should have made the cost of getting out of the obligation to buy higher if it is only 5M.
Athletic had an article on the wage bill that added some additional details to things we already knew. But one thing that I definitely did not know is that Dorgu's salary is only 40k a week. It pairs with the philosophy of going after younger players but also implies that they'll go after lower profile players or players in smaller leagues on smaller wages. Also goes into how that strategy plays out with Mainoo and Garnacho. Both are on low salaries relatively to their first team stature. Tied up till 2027 and 2028 respectively but implication is that salary negotiations will be heated...in the case of Mainoo likely as soon as this summer/end of 2025.
There's already stories out about how Mainoo wants too much (like 200kpw). How accurate they are, I don't know, but you wouldn't think they would be coming from Mainoo's side.
Unless Mainoo goes on strike or there's a Sancho like falling out, I don't think he has a lot of leverage. His contracted through 2027 and United can add on another year. He may not love his contract but United hold the cards for at least the rest of this year.
Would like to state for the record that this new system of prioritizing FA Cup games after the international break has ended at the expense of any EPL games sucks.

One of the difficulties of managing the international break is the long international travel for players from the Americas (N and S) who play in England. I'm guessing many of them don't have the luxury of renting a G5. This at least buys many of them some extra rest and recoups some travel time.
On the flip side it means Tuesday then Saturday games for the PL players. So even less rest.

I have just learned to appreciate Paramount Plus on such weekends and the numerous games they show. While most are teams I don't follow its actually fun to watch other teams / see other stadiums / etc. j
I often watch other games besides United. Or as often as being an adult allows. Watched Brighton/Forest FA Cup game yesterday. Dabble in La Liga as well. But I still don't like it.
Understood. Until about 2 weeks ago I didn't realize how many games they show on Paramount + which turns an otherwise sports-less morning to a morning I can pick from Serie A, Championship, SPFL, or League One
Maguire and Yoro are fit for Forest. Heaven's injury isn't serious and will return before the end of the season (but not for Forest). Mainoo is "close".
Shaw and Mount are training. Mount even made the bench recently. But I don't see any reason why either could or should play the rest of the season. Even if you make the assumption that they won't get reinjured, by the time they get up to full fitness, the season will be nearly over. Seems better to just treat the rest of this season as an extended 2025-26 preseason. Lay the foundations now so that they don't break in pre-season when training starts to pick up in anticipation of the first game.

On the plus side, we've looked decent the 10 minutes I've watched? That interplay of short, quick passing to break the initial press, followed by a Casemiro switch of play leading to a break and eventual Dorgu cross was nice even if the cross didn't find Garnacho.

lol...saw the goal and my goodness those center backs did worse than nothing. At least if they weren't there, Onana would have come out to cut down the angle.
Not great that the rebound off the crossbar fell to De Ligt but he's still gotta do better than whatever that was.
At distance the Forest kit looks a lot like ours, makes me feel like we are doing good even when they have control.
Anthony Elanga would be pretty damn good as an Amorim RWB.

That actually wasn't that bad. Seems like we're effectively playing strikerless as Zirkzee drops into attacking midfield a lot and Bruno either occupies that space or drops deeper alongside Casemiro/Ugarte. Garnacho and Dorgu have popped more often threatening positions with a head of steam towards goal but Garnacho has been bad. Like really bad.
I'd personally like to see Hojlund on for Casemiro. Not because Casemiro has been bad but because I don't think you can take off Ugarte. Like...ever. And I think the only way we might get a goal is with Bruno playing deeper, Zirkzee facilitating and adding Hojlund to try and get some chances. That combo kind of worked before the international break.

Amorim apparently doesn't subscribe to my "Never Sub Ugarte" theory. Hold onto your butts. Forest are about to get a boatload of chances.
Not sure why Casemiro got so mad; I guess he didn't think he deserved a yellow card? If it wasn't a yellow, it was at least in the same neighborhood.
I don't think he actually touched him? If he did it was certainly not a yellow and Yates made a meal of it. Like he did after he pushed Bruno away and then fell holding his face when Bruno knocked his arms away.
Good to take off Casemiro as seemed like his 2nd yellow was inevitable if he stayed on. But Eriksen and Bruno in midfield is max pain.
Take Garnacho off man. Can't get a yellow for kicking the ball away like that just because you've sucked all game and are frustrated.
Well that halftime sub killed our midfield but on the plus side we've also looked worse offensively.
