No one 'hates' Lefty. No one was cursing Coach for not changing pitchers in the 6th. I have said many times that Lefty is awesome and she is. She has won a lot of complete games and in relief but she has given up a lot of walks, big hits, HR's, etc. at really bad times in her career. Wild pitches and hit batters sometimes, too. Quite a few on 3-2 counts. Her strikeout to walk ratio is about 1.7:1 so far this year. Was about 2:0 last year. Stats do not lie - she gives up a lot of walks. I think most coaches in baseball and softball would have put in another pitcher at some time in the 6th in this game. Probably fairly early in the inning. Does not mean they do not like the pitcher but only doing what's best for the team and trying to stop the bleeding. In the interview after the game Coach said something like (do not remember the exact words) 'maybe I should have taken her out but she's my dog'. I mentioned in the thread that Coach has said several times before and during this season that it's great having so many arms because she can put in someone new after the other team bats around once or just to put in a different style pitcher to throw them off. Today would have been a great time to do so. Note that she DID put in Lessentine in the 7th and she did an excellent job. Says a LOT. And she is only a freshman! In that pressure situation! I do not have the magical ability to say, "if she had put in Lessentine after the first walk in the sixth Bama would not have scored any runs and we would have won easily." Luckily, in the end our bats, Bama giving up walks late and Lessentine doing fantastic we came back and won the game.

I cannot know what Coach is thinking but her and the other coaches will be talking about that inning for awhile - should we have put in Lessentine during that horrible inning? If this was a final in a regional or super regional or in the WCWS would she have? IF we had not come back and won the game I think many in this thread would have said she should have. It's history now. We won the series. But it is something that we will think about in the future.

Gosh, I did not have you in mind at all when I wrote what I wrote. Rest assured that you are one of the best, most thoughtful posters in this forum and, hopefully, I will never take anything you write personally. You are an 'I bleed Maroon' Ag as I am and love the softball team, coaches, etc. even more than I do (and it is a LOT) and I always respect your opinions, views, etc.

I was responding to some earlier posts about 'haters' in comments and simply, as I too often do, went into a lot of detail in trying to explain my views on the 6th inning. I could have just left it at 'I love Lefty' but I would have put Lessentine in the 6th and left it at that. But I am passionate about the team and softball and so, once again, wrote too much!

Boozer92 - I went back and read your post in the other thread. I had not read any of the newer ones, including yours, when I wrote the comments on the 6th inning. I DID note one of your posts that was excellent. Starts out with:

"I think the first thing the coach said in the postgame radio interview was that she should have pulled Kennedy sooner. With Kennedy's history vs the rest of the staff the past couple of years, I think it is still an adjustment for coach to have the same confidence in the new pitchers that she does in Emiley. Lefty certainly has earned that over years and the rest of staff is just beginning to earn that over a few weeks. Hopefully lesson learned."

History vs new staff. Varied confidence in her pitchers, Lefty vs the new ones. This is an excellent observation. Lefty has been in some really tough situations in the past and got out of them. Not always but a lot of the time. She knows how to calm her down and she had faith in her. A faith well earned. And she has seen what Lessentine can do in a tense situation.

So, 'Hopefully lesson learned', we move on and tackle the rest of the season.

I think we generally view the circumstances today in the same light. It was something certainly worth discussing. You know it. I know it coach knows it.

I will never blame Kennedy for being out there. She is a competitor and will never ask to come out no matter how hurt she might be. Coach has to make that decision for her

Yeah, how the hell do you put FSU above A&M?

D1 softball is the only one with FSU above the Aggies. Also the only one with them not at 5.

Always differences between polls, gives people stuff to talk about, but D1 putting FSU above us is really wild.

The eye popping scores were the UCF/UF and Oklahoma score. We caught the tail end of OU when we got home just to see if Wichita could pull it off. How that staff gave up 16 runs escapes me.

I was wondering how long it has been since OU gave up that many runs. Probably a very long time. I checked their press release about the game but no mention of that, only how many runs they scored. Even their awesome senior ace, the transfer from Louisiana, gave up 5 runs, only three earned, but she did get the win after pitching the last 4.0 innings. She is now 10.0 with a 1.31 ERA, 64.1 IP, only 12 earned runs, 87 SO and only 9 walks. Outstanding stats. All American stats. She was really good at Louisiana but not THIS good. Their second best pitcher started and gave up 6 runs, all earned, in 2.1 innings.

Thanks for the weather reports on here, we appreciate it. I have to go by the weather at KBTX. From checking it just now good chance we'll be able to play all three games on their scheduled days. Maybe today's game delayed a wee bit but that's it.

But weather forecasting is never perfect so ... we'll see !!
