Thanks for keeping an eye on them for us. I do not use X or any of those sites so rely on you guys for that. I DO check a couple of portal sites several times a day. I have read that there are about 2000 in the portal - wow! But I am too cheap to pay hundreds of dollars to access a site to allow me to search using whatever stats I am looking for. I'm sure some on our staff are doing just that all day, every day!

TN just picked up Maddi Rutan, a two-way player with pretty good stats both on the mound and at the plate. Added her name to my 'watch next year' list, along with P Maya Johnson, P/OF Desirae Spearman and P Cece Cellura (LSU).

This has been a big portal year across all sports it seems like. Between the roster limits causing some programs to have to cut (before the judge forced grandfathering) and the new NIL clearing house rules, lots of players looking to get what they can.

Thanks for the link!

Names mentioned in the article that played at Bama but found success elsewhere:

Skylar Wallace - on the current women's national team for the 2025 World Games
Lexi Kilfoyl - alternate on the current women's national team for the 2025 World Games

Note that OU coach Gasso is the head coach on the team. Two others from OU. Coach Ford is one of the assistant coaches.

I often follow players that transfer from A&M. Some end up starting for other teams and do OK. Some a bit better than at A&M, some not so much. But the one I remember the most is Baylee Klingler. Daughter of one of the famous Houston QB's from many years ago - she has great athletic genes. Her high school stats were outstanding. She started her freshman year at A&M in 2019 and played in every game. Did pretty well (see link below). But after the end of the season she transferred to Washington and proceeded to set records. Over the years, several really promising freshmen, with great HS careers, transferred after their freshman year. Always wondered why. I think NIL started about the time Klingler left and may have been part of it but what about years before that? Regardless, sure would be great to grab a few like her on Ford teams. I think we have started picking up players like her again with Ford and Co running things.

P.S. - Should have added a few players on the class of 2026 recruiting list.

Reagan Rohrlich, CF, ranked #1 OF in Texas
Milan Torres, CF, ranked #3 nationally on the PG Softball rankings list
Abreya Perry, OF, ranked #2 nationally on the Extra Elite 100 rankings list

We ARE getting some very highly ranked players already. If we can continue to do so it will be great. Getting a few Top 10 pitchers would be really great.

Koko Wooley was announced as the Rawlings Golden Glove Recipient at the SS position! This is the first time in program history that any Aggie has garnered the award. Congratulations to Koko on an outstanding career

It was fun watching her skills grow under Trish. We sure are going to miss her next year. Happy to see her recognized.

In contrast to all the fish that got playing time with the Ags this year. However, the sophomores that have been used almost exclusively as pinch runners the last couple seasons might be wondering if they have been passed over.

A&M has fully funded all roster spots. Inevitable given the other schools that have said the same, but good it has been announced.

Makes things a little easier for Trish in that she doesn't have to play around with a bunch of partial scholarships and juggle who gets how much.

"However, the sophomores that have been used almost exclusively as pinch runners the last couple seasons might be wondering if they have been passed over."

I have been wondering how Hailey Golden has done in practice the last couple of years. Wish she could have had more AB's. She was great in HS, her team won the state championship her senior year, she won 6A State MVP, was MVP of her team, etc. She pinch ran a LOT in her time here. Fast, good decisions on the bases. Had only 4 AB this year, with 2 hits, 2 RBI, 1 BB and 0 SO. I have Kelsey and Frankie in the OF next year with her a strong possible for the third slot. And the name Golden is perfect for a star player to have - Golden Glove, Golden Bat, etc.!

Scout had a great glove but average at the plate.

After Kelsey started getting playing time late in the season and was doing well Coach Ford said Coach Harger has been asking her to put Kelsey in ... and she finally did. Wonder what Harger says about Hailey?

Juggling with partial and full scholarships is probably one of the hardest things for coaches to do !!! And the length of the scholarships, too, is a really hard decision for them to make.

I think the 'professional' teams might tell their recruits something like, "you'll start with 1/4 scholarship but NIL will cover the rest of your school costs plus you'll get a really good allowance each month.

So, 25 fully funded scholarships will really help the teams that cannot do that.

Based on comments I've heard from coaches in other sports, I think we were there (make up the rest with NIL) in softball and some other sports. But making it fully funded scholarships is a lot easier. It isn't like softball is going to see a significant chunk of the revenue share, so good to see them get a piece of it through full scholarships.

Great news on NIL at A&M covering what partial scholarships do not take care of, thanks! Those schools that do not are at a big disadvantage when it comes to recruiting highly-ranked HS players. When I saw the two very highly-ranked OF's in our 2026 class I was wondering if we were helping them out via NIL money but have not seen anything to suggest we were until now. Groovy !!

Kay Naegeli just posted this at TexAgs:

D1 Softball Tabs KK Dement to All-America Freshman First Team

From D1 site:

Groovy !! She certainly earned it !!

TN has picked up three 4-stars. OF, 1B and P. The 1B is on the second team freshman All-American. One of the P's on the second team list is going to Georgia. They are all on my 'keep an eye on next year' list.

Still wondering where the strikeout queen from Belmont will go as well as LSU's Berzon.

And, of course, wondering what positions our coaches are looking for.

A catcher from Ohio State just popped up. Jasmyn (Jazzy) Burns. Pretty darn good stats. Will be a Junior.

Stats here:

I wonder how many players our coaches have checked out in the last week or so? Probably a huge number !!

KK certainly deserves All-American recognition, such a steady, but clutch player all year for the Aggies!

This is a good step for the sport-
Per ESPN, the MLB purchased a stake in and will back the new AUSL pro softball league

I don't know our numbers situation but are we only signing 1 player coming out of HS?

3 high school players coming in

Currently room for 5 portal players

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Counting the players leaving (graduation, transfers) and the three freshmen coming in the roster stands at 21. If the coaches want to limit the roster to 25 at this time they can grab up to four players from the portal. I do not think they have grabbed any yet.
frankie00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
4 or 5 can grab? I might have counted the roster wrong when I put 4 spots available.

On the ON3 website Berzon from LSU is still the highest rated at 99. The catcher I posted about a wee bit ago is at 97.

The strikeout queen from Belmont is at 95. In 207 IP she gave up only 35 ER, had 366 K, only 22 BB and 0 Hit By Pitch. BA against .154. Really looking forward to seeing how she does in a power conference.

Since the AD has indicated we will fund scholarships for all spots, I'd guess we don't go over 25. While potentially allowed under the amended House agreement (if/when it gets approved), I'm not sure the AD would want the additional scholarships on the books.

And it would be more than just one or two for softball. Plenty of other sports would want extra scholarships too. I believe swim/dive had to trim its roster to meet the roster limits. If you are going with what the judge wanted, swim/dive would need to bring those athletes back before gaming the roster limits elsewhere.

At 50k for one year, adding just a couple of headcount to each of 19 sports adds up quick.
frankie00

The coaches will almost certainly limit the roster to 25.

I was about to say Tennessee's Ace pitcher Pickens improves to 5-0 against Ou & Sips…until that Ou walkoff HR.

Tennessee refused to walk the All-American at the plate despite 1st base being open, to not put the go-ahead run on 1st, but Tennessee's ace pitcher gets taken yard for the walkoff HR.

Yikes

That pitch was way too close to the middle on an 0-1 count.

Similar to the tush push trying to be removed. Wonder if there's ever a push to move the WCWS.
