Sign up in the strip where Zands, Hometown Chinese, and Carters Burgers is: "Restaurant for Sale"

Not clear which one.

the marketing flyer for the plaza lists the Hometown Chinese space for lease. So that's my guess.

East Loop?
The former Frank's is actually about half a mile, give or take, inside the projected point where the inner east loop would cross 1179.

The planned 1179 widening project would put a roundabout in place of the current S-curve/intersection at Steep Hollow/Murka. Plus widening 1179 would put the roadway right up against the current gas pumps.

Now I haz a sad.

I don't get the fascination with roundabouts. Just straighten out the curve of death and be done with it.

As they continue to develop along steep hollow, people needing to turn onto 1179 from steep hollow will require something other than a single stop sign. The options are 4 way stop, traffic light, a roundabout, or something even more exotic. Which would you choose?

With the relative traffic volumes on 1179 vs steep hollow, a roundabout about is most efficient and most people going straight on 1179 would only have to slow down a bit instead of stopping. Also with a 2 lane roundabout, the inside lane on 1179 should barely have to curve.

Roundabouts and medians are crap. HTH
We'll win this war, but we'll win it only by fighting and by showing the Germans that we've got more guts than they have, or ever will have. We're not going to just shoot the sons-of-b******, were going to rip out their living G*******d guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We're going to murder those lousy Hun c********** by the bushel-f****** basket. War is a bloody killing business. You've got to spill their blood or they will spill yours. Rip them up the belly. Shot them in the guts.

I drove 1179 yesterday and couldnt help but snicker at the thought of a roundabout at that intersection. Just make the road right and move on.

This love affair with roundabouts needs to end. Boonville from 6 to DTB is almost un-navigable, it is going to ruin DTB's businesses, I have already heard from several DTB business owners that it is harming business. I hope I am wrong but, as soon as they finish that abortion I give it 3-4 weeks before there is a fatality at one of the 2 within 1/4 mile of each other.

Stop the median and roundabout madness please.

I told my wife that it's like the city wants to host an F1 race with all the turns on WJB now. I've yet to see anyone use the roundabout just west of the park heading towards downtown. And I've yet to figure out what the plan is near the Dollar Tree...

I am looking forward to the day that it goes back to two lanes all the way to Texas Ave...

As I understand it the justification for all the "traffic calming" measures was that people were driving too fast through that neighborhood.
Trump will fix it.

As a former trucker, I agree with this.

At some point, city/TxDOT might want to make MLK a east/west truck route but I dunno.

Edited to add: obviously 21 is your east/west thru truck route but those that have business downtown have little if any business being in the "improved" WJB.

If you all hate the roundabouts, just wait until they turn University @ Highway 6 into a diverging diamond.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Totally different thing. Roundabouts force you to slow down and are not good for long trucks.

The alternative to a roundabout would be a stop sign or stop light. Those make you stop completely. Wouldn't that be worse than slowing down?

I'd rather have to stop or ***gasp*** they time the lights properly, than to have to negotiate a hair pin roundabout with a trailer.
Bucketrunner

I'm convinced that they are totally incapable of timing lights

Or they just don't care.

Not sure they'll put a light way out in Steep Hollow unless the city limits has stretched out that far already.
Trump will fix it.

I get negotiating a small roundabout is a problem with a trailer. There are certainly some single lane roundabouts in town that would make that difficult. Although the one I am thinking of also has sloped curbs so anything big probably just partially drives over the middle.

On 1179, the point is to widen the road from 2 lanes to 4. The roundabouts there are going to need to be at least 2 lanes wide. If you are turning right, it shouldn't be that different than a curved right turn lane. If you want to go straight, I think you take the roundabout like a race car driver, start in the outside lane, enter the round about, use the inside lane to straighten the curve and the exit to the outside lane.

A left turn might be more difficult than an intersection depending on the turn radius, but I imagine a left turn from a two-lane road probably doesn't give you a whole lot of room for the trailer anyway.

A u-turn may be hard in a round about, but it is probably impossible for a U-turn on a 2 lane road with a trailer. Of course, the only reason you would need one on 1179 is because they are going to add the medians.

Edit to add the preliminary layout of the 1179 roundabouts. Left turn from 1179 or u-turn on 1179 could be a challenge with only 1 lane making the full circle, depending on the radius of the circle.

It looks like the lights at WJB and Coulter will be functioning soon. Not looking forward to this. I use Coulter to WJB to get home and without two dedicated lanes for straight and turn, this is going to be a mess. Maybe it will ease the congestion at the light at WJB and Villa Maria though...

I live in South CS but go to downtown Bryan at least once a week. From now on I'm taking Wellborn -> Harvey Mitchell -> Leonard and come in the back way. I know it is probably a little longer timewise but I don't care.

You would think someone with the name "racer" would like the roundabouts and Formula 1 styled roadway that is WJB.
