And there was the unknown swimming pool that all Bryan residents over 45 years old knew about but no one on this project did.

Which is why I laughed when the mayor said he was unaware.

Yeah, it wasn't that long ago that it was filled in.

His Dad was selling tires with a goofy radio ad… when the said folks over 45 were swimming in that pool.

After over 20 years in business, the last 11 under Dr. Britton, Bee Creek Vet Hospital is closing, per their Facebook.

Current clients have until May 2nd to request copies of records

Kind of odd for that abrupt of a closing. I hope they are okay.

Yes - astute. Probably not ok. Small business doesn't have a lot of options.

Yep, that's it. I'm good friends with one of the mayor's siblings. Bought many tires from them over the years.

Coffee shop going in where the bank used to be at Mitchell/Welsh. Unfortunately it appears they're removing the drive-thru window.

That's going to be PJ's Coffee, opening May 23. They're changing the drive-thru. They took out the bank type of drive-thru but it looks like they put in a window (normal size like most fast food places use for a drive-thru window) and not sure what they are doing with the larger part, but you can see two spots (one small window size, the other bigger) that are not brick like the rest of that side

(Edited to get rid of an autocorrect that I hadn't noticed and which made a typo)

Damn, sending coffee through the tube system would be something.

I heard that there was a delay caused by whatever the city is planning to do with the boardwalk construction around the lake there.

When I drove past the other day, there were some new piers on the lake shore and re-contoured the ground.

I'd guess it would be a little hard to do the lake shore work while the heavy equipment was putting in the shore side of the building (not much separation there) and probably better to does the building before installing a boardwalk. Probably the appropriate construction scheduling, just kinda odd seeing the building almost finished and not opening.

It's been open longer than that. Until I did a delivery there once I had no idea there was a vet office back there, it was just one of those crumbling old houses on the former Millers Lane that got converted to commercial or was demolished. Turns out it's been open since 1994.

The pool didn't reopen after the 1991 season and was filled with dirt (but clearly still visible), then sometime around 2012 either was partially bulldozed or fully covered with dirt after 2012 because you could see the contours on Google Earth even after it started to fade away. My guess is someone cheaped out and didn't actually dig out and demolish the pool, yet this egregious error was only discovered recently.

Oh wow, I figured it had been open a long time under Dr. Stiles, but not that long! I'd been going there since I moved to Texas 24 years ago. So sadge

Coming to a project near Northgate today: another tower crane.

I don't recall which project this one is for but it will probably be complete and occupied faster than Lincoln Drive will be finished, if you want to talk about comings and goings that are not really moving.

Yes, I found a blurb in the paper from the early 1990s that mentions converting the building into the vet office use but it's actually mentioned on their website.

Thread tax: the convenience store at La Brisa and FM 2818 has added a Mobil station that went operational a few days ago (it was an Exxon for many years but that was removed about ten years ago).

The gas station at College Avenue and Villa Maria is well underway (parking lot paved) but the Movie Bowl Grille seems to be stalled out still (half-finished paint). I don't think they'll make the mid-2025 opening as planned. (I'm looking forward to the gas station. Plans posted by Bryan shows it has a kitchen and eat-in component, so hopefully it will be some decent tacos/fried chicken/hamburgers/sandwiches).

Movie bowl grill building has certainly been stalled for a while, but i have seen some significant changes to the lake shore lately. My guess is once the lake shore is done, work on the building restarts. Shouldn't take long to finish the paint and the landscaping.

No idea what the state of the interior is and how long finishing that out will take. Wonder if they have been steadily working on finishing out the interior while waiting for the shoreline work to finish.

Saw something today about a two story F1 racing in NY. Wasn't there something here a year or so about F1 in BCS ? Seems to me the Macys building would be perfect for it. We can get KidDoc to be the official pediatrician to all the adults acting like kids at it ….

We were set to get a K1 Speed which I don't think has 2 story tracks. I've been to Andretti Indoor Kartjng in The Colony and it was a 2 story track.

Is there a small strip center between Dunkin and Dutch Bros on Wellborn? It has been a minute since I have been over there. But, there is a TDLR filing for a fabric care store and a Bruster's Ice Cream shop that appear to be going in between where Dunkin and DB are located.

Not between, but there is an open lot behind them that could be large enough for a small strip center.

Tried Bubba's 33 tonight. Before heading their way we got on the waitlist. It was 6pm and the estimated wait for a party of 2 was 10-20 min. Arrived at 6:10 and checked in. But the bar had plenty of open seats so we removed ourselves from the list and sat at the bar.

I did like the covered paddock near the entrance they have for those waiting for their table. It's nice to see they considered a lot of groups waiting for tables during busy times.

Service at the bar was great. Food was good. I had a pizza (Tuesday special), spouse had the Stromboli.

The interior was spacious. Lots of room for larger parties. Plenty of TVs showing sports and Chive. But it was loud. Very loud. Maybe not as loud as 1860, but close.

Looking forward to trying other menu options.

Remember - they probably have 4-6 managers from other locations there as a "opening go teams" and 1.5x the number of final waitstaff through planned attrition in 2 months. Chains focus on the opening hard and have a playbook - so their proof is do they fall off in a few months. One of restaurants are the opposite - they are often choppy at first and get better around the 90 day mark. At least that's my observation- I'm excited they are there : it's a great location and seems to be a good menu and price point.
