Mayor Nancy Berry gave the whole ' cleaning up the gateway to College Station ' crap as an excuse for annexing Wellborn. She didn't have a clue either.

Layne's on wellborn moving across the parking lot.

Quote:

Layne's Chicken Fingers, a mainstay in College Station, Texas, is preparing for a milestone moment: the relocation and complete transformation of its second restaurant in the community. The Wellborn Road location, which opened over 20 years ago, is set to move just across the parking lot, taking over a corner lot and unveiling Layne's newest prototype.

"This is a big moment for us," said CEO Garrett Reed. "That Wellborn location is a major part of our history. It has been feeding College Station for over two decades. But after 22 years, we wanted to give it new life. We knew there was no better way to do this than with a small shift that would boost our visibility and allow us to bring an even better experience to our loyal guests."

The new space will feature Layne's sleek, modern prototype, which was carefully developed to offer guests a great, aesthetically pleasing experience while further streamlining operations and bringing even more efficiency to the process.

Hard to believe that strip center area has been there 20 years. Doesn't seem that long.

Sounds like the Citgo will meet its demise soon.

Doesn't take long to tear something down. Let's see how long it takes to put up a parking lot.

I did see where Chicken Oil did a soft opening, so the contractor may be expecting to knock out the parking lot pretty quick.

It's amazing how well they did so far off the bypass. Hopefully their new prices won't be too expensive for this town.

parking there was like that game my kids played where you have to line up all the cars in the parking lot. a jumbled mess. you never knew if you were going to be able to get out when you left.

I did find it interesting that they moved the entrance for more safety walking in. I don't recall every worrying about being hit by a car...

I worried about kids or older folks falling. But I'm guessing there's some kind of ordinance about entrances and roads that they weren't following.

I'd bet they're going in to the space that was Taco Casa.

There was one at the Exxon at Rock Prairie and Wellborn for a few years.

There is a tik tok of some kid dressed up as Megamind at Post Oak that went viral yesterday. It's actually pretty funny.

Is Casiano Electric still in Bryan? Their website now shows them to be in Shoals, TX, and their 979 number (still shown on Google) doesn't work. I tried calling the 830 number from their website to ask if they also still service BCS, but it always went straight to voicemail.

No they moved to central Texas about a year ago. Kept a guy or two here for a bit but no longer service the area.

That's a shame. I really liked them. University Electric is our go-to now.

What's going on with the Schulman Movie theater at midtown park?

This is not the era for movie theaters. Most people would rather watch on their 75" televisions at home than to spend money on expensive food and sit in a room with 15 other noisy people. Last time I went, I said never again. The AC wasn't working right. It's just not what's cool in 2025; it's yesteryear. So much has changed for the better. And it's just not worth it anymore.

Their promo was for much more than a "movie theater":

Introducing SMBG - Bryan, TX!
The Schulman's Movie Bowl Grille family is excited to announce our newest project SMBG Bryan in Travis Midtown Park in Bryan, Texas!
With opening planned for mid-2025, this will be MBG's largest facility yet. Featuring the movies, bowling, arcade, restaurant & bar you've come to know and love from MBG, as well as some exciting new additions!

SMBG Bryan will also include a second level for 21+ with bowling, dining, Only Sons Brewery, and a balcony overlooking the beautiful lake in Midtown Park.

Another new addition is The Grove, featuring an outdoor amphitheater for live music and outdoor movies, yard games such as giant Jenga, cornhole, shuffleboard, lawn darts, and more, plus indoor and outdoor Pickleball courts!
We look forward to welcoming you with the service you've come to expect from MBG at this new location!

So Bryan midtown is going to be a ghost town with multiple empty buildings….sounds familiar. Amazing how history repeats itself.

Just wish there was more transparency with the Schulmen project. The site has been vacant since November. Costs are only going to escalate as time goes on. Remobilization, of a project that size, would be pretty substantial as well

At least they're not charging a premium of property tax to the residents of midtown without any hope of it going away because of no business investment.

But still, knocking it out of the park.
