Whoa for real?

$850,000 to renovate a brand new building! I understand a burger joint is different than a coffee shop, but wow!

At least it's in Bryan so there will probably not be a surprise $250,000 in compliance costs from the city.

The whole company. Our location closed a couple months ago.

At least we still have Party City and Big Lots to hit up.

I'm not certain as I'm out of town. I know two of the trainers don't believe it will reopen and all had resigned or left to move on. I haven't seen an update email from David since his email on the 4th of July weekend. I was reimbursed the July gym membership, but still waiting to hear back about the fate of some sessions I still had on the books. Emails to David have gone unanswered so far.

The situation makes me sad is all I can say.

Yep hate to see it after all those years. Also renovating and moving into a smaller space for only a month. Seems odd.

That price isn't too far off, if not low. Restaurants are expensive to build.

We pulled out of the Burger Mojo new build in Bryan when we got the construction bid. It was $300k higher than our projected delta for that location's feasibility. We are currently negotiating another location that doesn't require new build. New build expense is out of control. Of course, viability is always a case by case basis.

Tim Horton's surely has brand standards that need to be honored so that every unit looks like a "Tim Horton's". A mom and pop could prob repurpose the Mr Burger for 200k.

Chicken Oil not to reopen until additional parking complete. For all the flowery talk, I think they are being required to wait until they have more parking.

Something tells me the prices are going to go up at DC and Chicken Oil…

Super rough time (and getting rougher) to open/run a restaurant. I wish Chicken Oil and others all the luck in the world.

Surprise requirement from the city? They had been planning reopening in July, so it seems odd to suddenly realize that they need to tear down the building and build the parking lot before opening.

Yeah this is odd.

Doesn't sound like CoB is "knocking it out of the park" when it comes to planning or permitting on this Chicken Oil restoration.

Don't get me started with unexpected permits. It's a racket, and they know it.

That's my best guess. They thought the current new lot was enough to open and then were told it wasn't.

Impossible.

A few posters here are always talking about how CoB government is lapping CoCS in every way and is much more business friendly than their neighbor to the south.

Knocking it out of the park. We see it posted here often.

Okay, so the parking lot at Chicken Oil, J. Cody's et al is terrible. Pretty sure its been that way for a minute (decades)

But don't look at the mayor's place of business, and his piles of used tires and crap and stuff…. Move along…

Knocking it out if the park.

They were grandfathered in before.

Duuuuuuuuude, that's clean AF for a tire shop. That's not a pile of tires, those are set up for sale.

Most likely, they knew it need to be done and the architect drew it as ok to get around having to redo it, which passed permit review, then the inspector got out there and said "no way this is going to pass, you need to redo it to get your CO"

The guy literally sells used tires. So you never know what's for sale and whats not. I've seen piles of "definitely not" there…

To me, this reads like the owners decided to hold off until the parking lot is expanded. This should have all been reviewed and approved by the city prior to issuing the permit for the rebuild.

What was that building next door used for? For as long as I can remember going to Chicken Oil, that building was always vacant.
