We have other very exciting plans for the Solfy spot. Been waiting and working on it for a long time. Getting close, but not a done deal.

You're bringing back So Fly! That's the rumor I'm gonna spread and I don't care if it's true. Loved it even more than Burger Mojo. Especially the fried cheese.

I hate private equity taking over successful and good companies.
But...they don't. They attack troubled companies.

A bunch of good companies have been bought out by PE:
Whataburger.
Petsmart
Dollar General
Michael's
Etc

I know a friend who has a company worth about $100 million and growing annually. He is approached monthly, sometimes several times a week by different groups and firms who want to buy him out.

That's not a good take. There may be PE firms that go for troubled. There are others that specialize in the growing ones that are between series A or B and IPO. Some focus on consolidating family owned firms looking for an exit since next generation isn't interested in continuing. They all bring value to the original owners. They may - or may not - grow the company or create value for the employees or their investors. But painting a broad stroke….. probably not fairly.

PE killed Red Lobster. I mean intentionally ran them under with shady seafood deals from overseas.

Back to Comings and Goings please…

In the case of Walgreens specifically, PE is buying a troubled company and banking on a turn around in 3-5 years so they can sell it. Walgreens was already looking to close 1200 stores. At this point, you generally go the PE route because Wall Street doesn't have the patience for a multi year turn around.

Just saw on FB that Costa Vida is closing.

I really enjoyed that place, but it was always empty when I was there. Sad to see that news.

Possible new Burger Mojo spot?

I never saw anybody there.

The few times I tried it, I really liked the idea of the menu items I ordered, but they didn't deliver the taste I expected or wanted again.

It's amazing they lasted this long considering they opened during a pandemic and had to contend with Mad Taco and now La Bodega within throwing distance.

I thought maybe their catering was carrying them but maybe not.

That was my first thought.

They had such a good beef quesadilla. And their salsa roja was phenomenal.

I miss the bbq place that was there for a hot minute. I could go grab a sandwich for lunch real easy

Costa Vida shutting down tomorrow forever

Burger Mojo could be going into Taco Casa or Costa Vida.

Costa Vida was OK for a quick bite. We would usually hit the drive-through but in my opinion the price point was just too much for what you got. I thought it was just they charged too much money.
Probably not entirely their fault … cost of goods thru the roof right.
It starts at the top and rent is too high in this town to begin with… the retail spaces are the real crooks

I never had anything from there that was as good as other options for the same at a different restaurant. Plus the overhead there must have been high. Not surprised for sure.

This is spot on. It was the pricing that closed them down Food was decent enough to be in a regular rotation but the price point always kept me away after my initial 2-3 visits.

Need another burger joint in soco and BM makes a ton of sense.

Costa Vida converted to Burger Mojo by Costa Dallis?
Costa and Andreas

To be clear. Burger Mojo is not going to the Costa Vida space.

It's always tough to hear about a small business closing and my best wishes go to the owners of Costa Vida. They are very nice people.

Burger Mojo Drive Thru (location#3) coming to South College Station! Don't ask me where, because I can't say yet. More info to follow in the coming weeks, but we're targeting to open pretty quickly.

Seems like the available locations have been disproven. I'm stuck on the phrase "drive thru location #3" and that it "open pretty quickly." Will it be a ghost kitchen at La Bodega?

Think of the other pizza place that used to be nearby they went out of business.

I'm betting it's that location.

That's the old Howdy Pizza? Did Harvest Coffee/Uptown Brunch close (or about to close)?

Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong place.

In the cookie place still open? Maybe it's there.

I'm not sure what is in the former Marble Slab/GACC space. Or if it is currently vacant. Google maps doesn't have an updated image.

I am guessing it will be located in the former Bubbies Kolache lease space on Fitch near Tads.

Costa Vida was good and I went the first year or so they opened. The price point was too high for what I was getting.

Commercial real estate is expensive. Guessing that lease was $20K a month.

With Costa Vida I never felt like I was getting enough meat on my tacos. They would use the tongs and give just a little bit of chicken or pork. Regardless of price I want to feel like I have enough food.
