Sometimes I forget how blessed we are to live in a community where so many diverse dining options are available.

Vietnamese-French cuisine is one of my favorite combinations.

I eat there at least every other week, if not every week, for lunch and it's never very busy. I think it's better than the other options like it in town. I wish they had a drive thru though because I mostly get it to go.

I went to Chicken Oil these evening. Good burger (maybe not the "best" but I didn't go to the old Chicken Oil enough. It definitely has a larger dining room, and I tried to imagine the way it used to be set up, and I'm pretty sure the ordering counter was where the new side (concrete) is now. The old door seems to be removed, there's arcade machines there now.

The price of a Snuffy Special is extremely reasonable given the state of fast food these days.

I went to Dimassi's for lunch. It was not busy at all which was kind of surprising. I will preface this to say I am not an expert on Mediterranean food. I really like Shiraz and Zoe's Kitchen but was pretty lukewarm about the Mediterranean place on Texas Ave. that recently closed.

Dimassi's was good but it didn't really satisfy that craving I have for kabobs like Shiraz does. I much prefer the bread at Shiraz over the pita bread they had here. But there was a lot more variety here and if you like chicken, this is your place. I typically will eat anything but chicken when I'm out but the couple things of chicken I had were good. The kafta kabob was good. I really like lamb but the lamb shanks are only on the dinner menu so I didn't get to try it. I didn't try everything on the menu but there wasn't anything that I tried that I would've said I won't have again. I forgot to try the fried fish but I did try the baked fish which was OK.

It's $18 not including tax/tip for lunch during the weekday which is a pretty good deal but it cost me $4 to park which was not.

Zands easily better than Shiraz in just about every way (just my personal opinion).

I love Dimassis in Houston so if its anything close to that here it should be a massive slam dunk. Surprising the crowd was light.

Just an FYI. Anchor Bar has $1 wings all day for their one year anniversary.

Rice + Salad + Gyro smothered in spicy sauce, all mixed together. Ali knows my order the moment I walk through the door.

Fuego messed up my order today. They never do that! I didn't realize it until I was back at work.

I called to let them know. I didn't have time to go back. I ate the egg and potato taco they gave me instead of the El Presidente I ordered. I was nice about it. The person that answered said they would get the manager to call me.

The manager called me back later and we chatted and he assured me that lunch was on him next time.

I know I'm supposed to tear them down here and on FB but I decided to just call them.

Mistakes happen. It's how they handle them is what makes/breaks a place.

Now that you mention it, Fuego has never got my order wrong in 15 years of eating there.

This has been reported to the county health department via a phone call with a follow up email that included pictures.

To-go order from the SW Valley Wings n More today. Ordered a sweet tea. Went home and drank the sweet tea. Was going to put water in it since there was ice remaining. Found a dead roach in the cup. Not one of those big water bugs/tree roaches. A legit roach.

The health department will be sending someone out. I will never eat from that location again. It will probably be a while before I eat from another location because I can't get the image out of my head.

Adding roaches to my list of reasons not to drink sweet tea along with…DIABEETUS!

Random restaurant review incoming!

Had a long day last week so decided to treat myself to sushi and a beer solo after work. Went to Imperial Chinese & Sushi before my grocery run at Krogers and decided to sat the sushi bar.

I was the only person there at 5:20 PM, TV was on college football predictions that I had already seen, so I started talking to the guy making sushi for to go orders before realizing that he was the owner of the place! Had some great conversation about everything from perfecting my homemade sushi rice to global geopolitics over the next hour or so with Stan. I got the sushi sampler and a spicy tuna hand roll and both dishes were delicious and served with pride.

I have ordered takeout from them in the past when I lived closer in Bryan, and I've gone in and had meals in the past but this was just a 10/10 experience. Great food, great conversation, and I seem to have made a new friend in Stan the Man.

If you're ever in Bryan and have a craving for chicken fried rice or a spicy salmon roll, hit them up!

Do any of you locals go to Maria Mia? We ate there Sunday night (stayed in the hotel next door) and while it certainly wouldn't be compared to down-and-dirty, hole in the wall style Tex-Mex, it was definitely good. The wife was happy with her margarita.

I eat at Maria Mia's for lunch almost every week.

We do MM about once a month. Usually go on Tuesdays for their special. Was sad they did away with Working Women's Wednesday.

The Tuesday deal went up a couple of bucks last month but still a decent deal for this day and age.

If I were them I would make the deal for $30/32 or $35 with upgraded margaritas

I wouldn't mind checking out the rest of the menu but seemingly always get the fajitas special.

We like MM but it's so dang loud.
