I was 2 the last time Mexico were in the Quarter-finals.

One of the things I hate most about the expanded World Cup is that it could be decades before the US plays Mexico in a meaningful game again (no, I don't care about the Gold Cup). Nothing better than beating them with WC qualifying on the line.

Agreed. World Cup Qualifying in CONCACAF will never be the same. It's why I flew to Columbus in the winter of 2021 just to go to a meaningful WCQ game.

Mexico does have kind of an amazing lack of any kind of athletic accomplishments as a nation. This is their best and well, I guess a couple of quarterfinals 40+ years ago is good. 13 olympic gold medals all time.

Seriously.

An absolute "Group of Death" in 2030 qualifying would be something like USA, Panama, Jamaica, and Guatemala. We would need to finish second out of that group to be guaranteed a WC berth, and even third could give us a chance at playing for an inter-confederation playoff slot.

It will never happen, but I would love to see Mexico and Canada move to CONMEBOL. Let America's Hat battle it out with Antigua and Barbuda for a WC berth.

That is one thing I've never ever understood about the flopping, how have coaches not addressed this yet. There doesn't seem to be any value in flopping anymore, especially with the new VAR simulation card, but people still do it all the time.

Even if their team is in a dangerous area, or they've got a run, or are needed on defense, it's ridiculous.

Ecuador had no defender on the wide open Mexican in their box, because he was rolling around on the ground trying to get a foul.
