Center backs can be as good at penalties as anyone else. But that big dude starting off with the marsupials first take was terrible.

They can be but we have witnessed a lot of center backs do what he did.

Probably the one right next to AT&T Stadium.

Yokel's anthem reviews
I haven't listened to Argentina's anthem this World Cup. It remains not very good, easily the weakest anthem of all the traditional World Cup powers.

Cape Verde's song doesn't really sound like a national anthem, but it has a nice island vibe. I'll give them the edge here.

On the pitch, this is going to shock y'all, but Argentina is going to win.

Why are they drunkenly celebrating in the produce aisle of a Walmart? Only place they can afford to go that has air conditioning?

Everyone is a Cabo Verde today right?

I mean just for the pure chaos you have to be

By FIFA world rankings, #64 Cabo Verde over #2 Argentina would be the greatest upset in World Cup knockout history, narrowly ahead of #70 Russia over #10 Spain.

So sure, why not?

Although I think Argentina is the only side that has a prayer against Les Bleus, so if you're not a fan of the cheese eating surrender monkeys you might want to reconsider.

I would prefer actual cheese eating surrender monkeys.

I guess penalty awards and corners can be reviewed for mistakes too

But not a ref's decision on a regular foul

Thanks. I don't understand why sports leagues are so hesitant to use replay whenever possible. It would be so easy to just have someone in the booth buzz down to the official and say, "You got that one wrong." It's not just FIFA. Every sport seems to love leaving human error in the officiating.

Where do you draw the line? Should every infraction be reviewed? The game would take forever and unwatchable. People just need to accept that referee mistakes will happen and is a part of the game.

referee decision making is as big a part of the game as player decision making. They don't want that many stops delays and restarts to a fast game. The most important / consequential decisions can be reviewers for possible obvious errors- and even then, the ref's decision is only supposed to be overturned for obvious mistakes so it should be quick and rare actually. What annoys me is the technology slo mo freeze frames taking so long a changing the game when a pinky toe was "offsides".

In my decades of playing soccer, I can probably count on one hand where I did something like, "Yeah, that was pretty awesome. I was unstoppable right there."

Messi does that at least once a match, if not a half.
