Soccer players have some of the greatest resilient Wolverine type healing powers I've ever seen.

Broken ankles, compound fractures, severe head trauma that leads to them rolling across the field for minutes. With 30 seconds they are up and doing bicycle kicks. It's truly remarkable.

When I talk with parents about youth sports and specializing too early, I always use throwing a baseball as an example. I've worked with pro athletes who can't throw one.

Its why kids should be play any and every sport/activity possible as kids. I don't want to see a 7 year old who is already doing club sports and nothing else. Leads to poor biomechanical development.

Your last sentence is the key one for me. I coached middle school baseball for a few years, and by that point, those boys are already deep into that life, year round. Had an eighth grader who could only play first base because he was still recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Amen, Wangus. One of the biggest frustrations I had coaching were my JV Baseball (football players) getting pulled for weightlifting competitions during the season.

In fairness on throwing a baseball, part of why baseball players **** up their arms all the time is that it is not a particularly natural movement. The human body is not really well developed for overhead throws. We can do it, but it's not really what our arms built for.

But yes, totally agree on the point

Completely agree with this. My 8 year old loves softball and is pretty decent at it, but we're having her play volleyball and basketball in the fall and winter. No need to have her playing softball year round so early in life. Play em all!
