Huge overpay by the Magic. Bane isn't going to win you a title unless he is your 3rd or 4th best player. The Magic are a bit delusional if they think 1) Bane was worth that much and 2) Banchero and Wagner are good enough to be the top two players on a championship team.

All of this points to the Magic GM trying to save his job by mortgaging their future. He came under some pressure this last year because of his lack of desire to trade for reinforcements after a ton of injuries. He knows this might be his last season in that position, so he took a big (stupid) swing. Very similar to the Westbrook deal when Darryl knew he was at the end of his line. They don't care about those draft picks, because they know they aren't going to make them. Stupid move by the owner to allow this. That said, the magic have a history of doing stupid things so their owners are probably not very bright.
4 first round picks.. 3 of which SHOULD be in the 20-30 range. They got off of KCP contract and he was abysmal, and they picked up the 3rd best catch and shoot 3pter in the game. Dude plays hard, plays defense, etc.

For a team that is defensive. They have their creator and guy they want to play thru in Banchero, but he's been hampered bc the rest of that team cant shoot for ***** Seems like the best move the Orlando could have made this offseason.

The entire point of the trade is to make Bane your 3rd or 4th best player. Wagner put up 24/6/5 last year and plays great defense. Paolo put up 26/8/5 last year.

Bane gives them an upgrade to Suggs on 3rd scorer and 3rd playmaker. He put up 19/6/5 last year and 24/4/6 the year before. He also gives them a legit 3pt shooter at 41% for his career. Orlando desperately needs that shooting.

There is an opening in the East this year, so it makes sense to make a push for it. Boston has Tatum out and who knows what Cleveland is doing, but Mobley getting the 30% max complicates things a lot in Cleveland.

It is an overpay, but I think it is a player that fits really well for them. I think they tried to go after other young guys like Garland, but Cleveland wouldn't allow it. This gives Orlando a legit third player that plays two ways, hits threes, and can initiate the offense. I don't know if it makes them favorites, but it certainly pushes them way up in the east.

Is that true? Using the catch and shoot stats I found on nba.com, there are at least 30 guys with a better Catch/Shoot percent from 3 than Bane (filter >1 3PFGM and >40 games). Bane is no slouch (42% on 3 at catch and shoot), but KCP was at 39% last year when they penciled him in as the missing piece.

KCP did not fit well in Orlando, but I don't think it was all his fault. I just think the Magic have poor spacing and a poor offensive identity. In my opinion, JJJ and Ja were better complimentary pieces than what he will get in Orlando. I wouldn't be surprised if Bane struggles in Orlando compared to his time in Memphis, while at the same time KCP has a nice bounce back year.

Edit: found the stat you are referencing. Their threshold was a 1000 attempts.

There were players who shot more than 1k 3 pointers this season?

James Harden once attempted 147 threes in a playoff game.
He made 5 of them.

I hope the rumors are true about Stone's offer for Durant. If they want some package involving Green, Jabari, picks, etc. then so be it. You can't break the core for a 36 year old, soon to be 37 year old when the next season starts. It will sell tickets, but thats about it.

Heard the stat didn't look it up myself. Is that what it was? For players with over 1000 attempts?

To clarify it's 1000 FG attempts, not just from 3. There were 47 players that met that threshold.

I listened to Simmons/Russilo this morning. They brought up what this could signal from Memphis, which I hadn't considered is Memphis going to try to reset and this is the start of moves. If so is JJJ available, and what would the rockets have to give up to get him.

He provides interior D and rebounding. Some shot making.. but he doesn't give us a go-to scorer that we need. I'd still like to entertain it and potentially find a scorer elsewhere.

looking at stats. i shouldnt have said rebounding, those two usually go hand in hand for a guy like him. I don't watch the Grizz that often; not a Ja fan at all.

Don't think this is a rebuild at all. I think they were a bit lukewarm on Desmond because of his massive contract. He is paid the same as Ja which lands at about 25th highest in the league. He is a great shooter, but at that number he can't really return appropriate production value, so he is a bit expendable. They got a huge offer and the decision to move on was probably easy.

10000%. 3 young guys that are at worst rotational regulars + the 10th pick for a 36/37yo. F that.

If its just Jalen Green and the 10th pick I think its a no-brainer you do it. My only reservation would be the back end of the deal if he signs an extension with a player option.

Suns are asking for the #2 pick and/or Stephon Castle from the Spurs.

Suns have wildly crazy valuations on Durant considering his age, injury history and history of toxicity in the lockerroom.

Which is hilarious, considering they have absolutely zero leverage

Durant could have gotten that 2y max extension from Golden State that Jimmy Buckets got. But he blocked that trade. I think he is regretting that because Jimmy got 2y110M and I don't think anyone at this point would do near that for Durant. Zach Lowe was saying he could feel comfortable at 2y60M.

A cookie, 2 middle fingers, and walk away.

We'll take booker for their picks, Jalen Green and Jabari. They can then sell Durant elsewhere and start over.

If Jalen has no value, I wouldn't mind seeing the Rockets pivot to something like this. Hold Jalen until the trad deadline so his playoff performance, or lack thereof, isn't so fresh. I actually think KD fits this team's timeline really well because you shouldn't have to sacrifice much to get him. Save most of your best assets in hopes that an all NBA type - that's still in his prime - becomes available.

Looking ahead to next year..

Rockets biggest need is a go-to scorer to close out games. KD isn't the ideal solution at 37 but probably the most realistic target. Would a package of FVV, Tari, and this year's first rounder be enough to make it happen? If not, Rockets could also add Whitmore.

Bring back Adams and sign a FVV replacement, and it would be hard to shoot holes in the roster. I wonder if CP3 would be doable (signed with SA for 1 year and 11M last offseason).

Amen
Green
Brooks
KD
Sengun

Jabari
CP3
Sheppard
Adams

Rockets would also still have all of the future draft picks which would help when they inevitably have to let a couple of these guys walk for salary cap reasons (thinking Jabari).
