Our offense isn't exactly amazing with FVV, but without him it just looks so disorganized.

Like a pickup team who haven't played together before

Just a really, really bad loss tonight. Worst team in the West without two of their best players and we hardly gave them a challenge on the defensive end. Out-rebounded by 17 and gave up 66 points in the paint…

And the 4th quarter struggles continue to be ugly, getting outscored by 12 tonight despite Utah missing 14 FTs.

Hopefully getting FVV back gives them some sort of spark

We are terrible on the second night of a back to backs. I think we have to play with so much energy that it basically kills our ability to do anything meaningful in the second game. Luckily we have another b2b coming right up...

These guys keep losing to teams that are trying to lose.

They will be fighting for one of the final playoff spots by the end of the year.

We might be first in the West if games ended after the 3rd quarter.

I still think we finish in the top 4. But I feel you. These losses have been frustrating.

Don't forget about tanking a season for Tim Duncan!
Yeah, the career ending injury to starting PF Charles Smith, the blown ACL on Sean Elliott, the herniated disc on 6th Man Chuck Person, the back injury in the olympics and the broken foot in the season for Robinson were all probably faked.

I never understand why Spurs fans won't just admit they tanked.
My dad and I had season tickets in 83-84 when the Rockets tanked for Hakeem, and it won them 2 titles. Did it suck to watch them play guys along with Sampson who werent' that good? Yeah sure, but the titles were so much better for it.
Spurs put on a master class of tanking and got a generational talent and won - what 5 titles? 6? You should be proud of them for caring enough to lose on purpose to give the franchise an incredible dynasty.
LOL the hubris to ignore all the actual evidence to stick with the thoroughly debunked notion that the Spurs purposefully tanked, and your reasoning and evidence boils down to 1. My dad had season tickets to the Rockets in 1983 and 2. They tanked because I said they did.

The Spurs (and Rockets, Pistons, Hornets, etc) all tanked for Wemby. The Spurs didn't tank for Duncan. They had awful and unavoidable injuries in a season they planned to make the playoffs and they got lucky in the lottery. The Spurs actually won at a higher rate down the stretch than they did the rest of the season.

The Spurs even fired their coach during the season (something they should have done long before when RudyT abused him and it was clear he was not an NBA level coach.)

Robinson's back was never the same after the 96 Olympics. And his broken foot was the same injury that ended Yao Ming's career. Is it your contention that the Spurs should have rushed Robinson back from those injuries and jeopardize the rest of his career to try to win maybe a few more games in March or April when they were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs? Yeah, that worked out well for Yao in Bejing, didn't it? That would be brilliant. But maybe that would have kept guys that went to Rockets games in 1983 from saying they tanked.

Chuck Person was never the same after his back injury on the airplane. He had surgery for the herniated disc and went from one of the top vote getters for 6th man to shooting .360/.330 the rest of his career. The Spurs knew Chuck would miss the season with that injury, which is why they talked Dominique Wilkins into coming over to be the 6th man. Signing a HOF player that still has some juice left isn't a tanking move.

Sean Elliott was never the same, and that was before his kidney transplant. He lost his explosiveness. He was a 20ppg wing that made the AS game the year before. After that knee reconstruction, he didn't have his explosiveness and was a 9-11ppg player.. then he had a kidney transplant two years later. As a Rockets fan you should remember that the rockets tried to trade Horry for him, but failed him because of his kidney problem prior to this. It was already a problem for him two years before he blew out his knee (I think the 3rd or 4th time)

Spurs had traded JR Reid and a 1st to get Charles Smith. His knee injuries ended his career that year at just 31yo.

Four of the five best players on the Spurs had catastrophic injuries that year. None of them were able to play back to the levels they had previously played at before their injuries. For some reason, to you, that is tanking.

Hope you enjoyed the games with your dad.
I was out of town for a few days, but I'll go ahead and confess that I make the tanking post periodically because I know you'll fly off the handle about it and come swooping in on your silver-and-black rope to defend the Spurs on the Rockets' thread every time. I used to do the same thing to a guy I worked with in the 1980s by saying loudly at office functions that Earl Campbell was better than Tony Dorsett just to get him to go ballistic.

7th-8th seed is coming to destroy your hopes. Pray we can make the 6th.

It's not a knock. It's where this team is. Same personnel in 2 years and we may be ready to make a run, but I'm souring on The Big Turkey quickly.

Playoff long self ban bet?

You might be right, but I do feel that now the roster is healthy again we are gonna see more of the play we saw for the first 45 games of the season and less of the last 12.

45 games isn't a fluke. This team was playing at an elite level.

You would make someone not post on the rockets thread for the entire playoffs? If I made that bet, I am still hoping to be wrong, but history says teams this young don't.

They've been spectacular, but this part of the season is where you're going to see the Lakers, GS, Minnesota, Denver all ramp up.

Here's how I see it:
1. OKC
2. Denver
3-5: Memphis, Lakers, GS, Minnesota
6. 1 of the above teams, Rockets, LAC
7. LAC, Rockets
8. the other

Rockets most likely finishing with the 7th seed. This is barring any major injuries to any of the teams. Assuming healthy big time players, of course.

GS is the the team I think is about to surge up the standings with the Butler addition. Minnesota is a wild card. Ant is amazing, but he needs more help than just Naz Reid.

Wtf is Tari Eason doing? Thrown it to Porter Jr twice in a row for easy steals and dunks. Type of plays that will cause the league to check for gambling…they were that bad.

I'm sure Lillard and Giannis were thrilled when Brooks Lopez chunked up the 33 foot three-pointer with 25 seconds left.

Spurs putting on a great tank show tonight . Rockets up 101-75 after 3Q. Spurs 5 of 26 from the three-point line, Rockets up 44-30 in rebounds. A win gets you back to #4, half a game ahead of the Fakers, and closes the gap to 1-1/2 games on Memphis & Denver currently tied for second in the West.

I know yall were as shocked as I was when Wemby came down with a season ending non-contact injury that isn't expected to effect 2025/26 season.

Just like I was shocked when they blew big leads over the Pelicans twice this week, extending their losing streak.

The Rockets remaining strength of schedule is easier then DEN, MEM, LAC, and LAL.

GS and MIN have easier schedules, to be fair.

The stage is set for FVV to come back healthy and for this team to position itself quite well.

Fun fact: The NBA is considering changing their franchise name to the San Antankio Spurs.

On the broadcast last night: "The spurs want Fox to take the rest of the season and expand his role within the offense they run with Wemby. Not change the way the operate, operate the same as if Wemby was in there. It's not bc they don't want to win. They really want to win, but just within the offense they run with Wemby"

It was some line of BS like that. Queue the Jennifer Lawerence "Yeah, Ok" gif.

I wanted them to lose more this year.

But considering Wemby was looking good for DPOY and All-NBA, I don't think they sat him to lose more. They were losing plenty with him playing. The team has massive talent deficits.

Fingers crossed the Spurs tank well enough to get their own Reed Shepherd.
AG@RICE
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm officially labeling Reed as a bust.

I loved him during the draft, but he plays way too soft to make it in the NBA. He simply doesn't play with enough physicality or intensity to offset his lack of size/length. Last night he got absolutely abused by he Spurs subs (who suck) and ended up a -12 in 6 minutes. Obviously he wasn't playing with the starters, but he was the main reason why the Spurs made a comeback at the end. We couldn't inbound the ball because he wasn't physical enough to get separation from a bunch of bench scrubs on a tanking team. He is just too easy to pick on and he doesn't really put up a good fight.

I hope Ime benches him (or sends him to the G-league) for the rest of the year because we don't need the rest of the league figuring out how much he actually sucks. Everytime he plays in the NBA, he loses value. If we hide him long enough he might still have enough "potential" that we can flip him for something useful.

The Original Houston 1836
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm not sure why he's just not in the G League and is in the G League under specific orders to learn how to play the part of the game that's not jacking up 3s.

Did Coach not have any influence on who got drafted? Seems completely opposite of who he might have selected if he had control.

We all keep saying the same thing - if the Rockets hadn't busted out this year to date, that draft pick fail (so far) would be the pulse of every sports talk show and message board in town. Feel like the last time we had a pick that high be total dog crap was when we traded for Eddie Griffin, but I don't think he was top 5.

Woods Ag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't think the coach did have a say. I don't think he cares for Reed at all, and I don't think Tari or Whitmore do either. They go out of their way to not pass to him.

I think coach woulda drafted Castle and we'd be thrilled right now, even though I would have been upset in the moment.
Guitarsoup
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Theoretical Reed makes a ton of sense. He was an absolutely elite shooter, had great team defensive analytics, and could be a secondary creator.

Castle made less sense for the Rockets at the time, because the Rockets biggest need was (and is) shooting to spread the floor. Castle with a poor shot plus Amen with a poor shot plus FVV with a poor shot gets kind of rough.

Houston Reed and Kentucky Reed are two completely different players.
Woods Ag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
That was my take during the draft as well. I wanted Reed so bad
Head Ninja In Charge
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I know it's still his first year on a loaded team of young guys, but it's now after the break and I haven't seen much change from him in the minutes he's been given. Officially worried.
WES2006AG
How long do you want to ignore this user?
We are all worried Reed will be a bust but it seems a bit premature to say that has already happened. We drafted Reed because he fit what we needed perfectly. If he was able to stay on the floor and make a few 3s a game this team would have been very happy with that. At this point he hasn't shown he deserves minutes though.

If he looks this overmatched next year then yes we will have squandered the #3 pick.

Great team defensive analytics is code for "couldn't guard Sister Jean"
