Great team defensive analytics is code for "couldn't guard Sister Jean"
He also led all of college basketball in steals, steals per game, and steal percentage. He wasn't a weak link on defense at all, that was Rob Dillingham.

That's all fine and dandy and you can argue last year all you want but he couldn't guard anyone in the summer league and he looks like a 6th grader playing Varsity Ball now. The problem with that is he won't grow for the next 4 years to catch up to the varsity boys.Guitarsoup said:TREX01 said:

Theoretical Reed makes a ton of sense. He was an absolutely elite shooter, had great team defensive analytics, and could be a secondary creator.
Castle made less sense for the Rockets at the time, because the Rockets biggest need was (and is) shooting to spread the floor. Castle with a poor shot plus Amen with a poor shot plus FVV with a poor shot gets kind of rough.
Houston Reed and Kentucky Reed are two completely different players.

I'm concerned with Reed but not remotely close to calling him a bust yet.
A difficulty in this is that you don't often have a team with a top pick be a ~50-win level team with a talented and deep roster like Houston. Most of the time, top picks are going to teams with dog**** rosters, so even if they aren't ready (like Scoot Henderson last year) they get minutes because the team was still not good.1876er said:texasaggie2015 said:

There aren't many high draft pick's who couldn't even get on the floor their rookie year and turned in to solid players. I can't think of one. Usually you know pretty quick if a guy has got it or not.
7 players in the league have defended 500 drives this season while making a positive impact on the defensive end. Here they are sorted by the no. of drives they stopped. pic.twitter.com/it3MGBadwr

Nothing like finally getting done with everything, sitting down in front of the TV and seeing Jock Landale out there because Amen, Dilllion, and Alperen are all hurt. Yeesh.

Thunder have no answer for the three-headed monster of Whitmore, Holliday and Dante.
Rockets are -16 with Reed on the court tonight. Glad he's made some shots and got a couple of steals, but he hasn't exactly arrived.
