I don't think they have a choice. They can't trade Beal. Durant is 37 and is on an ending contract. They are a 2nd apron team. And despite their best efforts, they can't even make the playin.MaxPower said:

This year they paid $125M in tax in addition to $214M in salary. To not make the playoffs.
Next year, they have 5 empty roster spots and a $218M payroll before filling them which amounts to a $165M tax bill. They are losing contributors/starters like Bol and Tyus Jones.
They also finished with the same record as the Blazers and two games ahead of the Spurs. Safe to assume both those young teams improve.
Phoenix only has veteran minimums, the 29th pick and the 52nd pick to improve their team.
No one is going to give them a ransom for Durant at his age and injury history. Their only real choice is to trade Booker to the Rockets for Green, Eason, Reed, and their own picks back.
They can get expiring contracts in a Durant deal. They have to make salaries match with almost any team they trade with so trading Durant vs Booker doesn't really impact their long term payroll.
You're also assuming they have rationale basketball people. I don't think that's a safe assumption. I get a Colorado Rockies vibe from that ownership group.

If they trade Durant for expirings.... they aren't improving and still don't have their own picks. Now they moved their second best player for what? Save money and suck even worse? Just doesnt make sense. They need a complete reboot and getting their own picks back and getting young talented players is the only way.

Yeah, I dont think the Heat give up 3x firsts for Durant. Pat Riley is way too savvy for that.
Plus the heat owe the 2027 pick to Charlotte for the Terry Rozier trade.

Depends what big move they do, but I think what makes the most sense is to decline the option and give him a 3-4 year contract. Even though he is only periodically effective, his presence on the team and leadership is clearly important to the team. If the can make a move for Booker, FVV can spend a lot more time off ball and as POA defender. His catch and shoot numbers are pretty good - 46% from 3 in the playoffs and 38% from three in the regular season. Fred needs a guy like Booker to take the bulk of the creation off him to become more efficient.CFTXAG10 said:

I would say that there is no way the Bucks would be dumb enough to take Green as the big piece of a deal for Giannis, but we did get T-Mac for Steve and Cuttino and Harden for Kevin Martin so who knows
Milwaukee's problem is their 26, 27, 28, 29, and 30 picks are controlled by 3 different teams. NOP, ATL, then three for Portland. Not like Phoenix where they can get multiple picks back from Houston. Maybe Giannis gets wrapped into a multi-team deal where Zion gets moved and the NOP ownership of the 26 pick goes back to Milwaukee.
If OKC flames out again this year, I could see them getting involved. Same with Brooklyn if they want to get past tanking quick. Giannis has made comments about wanting to be in a big market.

Yeah the proposed deals I've seen floated around to get Giannis are silly. Amen, Alpy and a crap ton of picks. You basically put yourself in the same position Milwaukee is right now. They have one great player, no one around him and no way to acquire anyone of meaningful value.
Giannes makes zero sense for us unless you are completely revamping the whole team and also trading for 2-3 more shooters. Booker is the guy you use your trade assets for. Kd only makes sense if you're keeping half of your trade assets and Phoenix wouldn't do that deal. But we would be stupid to use all of our trade assets for a 37 year old.
I'm kind of more interested to see who will take a flier on Zion. When he actually plays, he is an incredible force. Does any team trust their organization to keep him in shape and interested in winning?

Hard pass imo. He doesn't seem like guy , no matter who the coach or team, who will ever be a "ball player". Just cashing those checks and play 30-40 games a year

Apparently there's a clause in FVV's contract that states a decision on the team option must be decided within 5 days of the last playoff game. So we should hear something in the next couple of days on that decision.

Thought this was interesting food for thought. You trading Jalen for Austin Reaves? He seems like an Ime guy. Good defensively, better passer and shooter than Jalen but upside is limited.
I'm not sure where Jalen would fit on the Knicks when they have Brunson, Bridges and Hart. He's very similar to Bridges already.
Clippers could also be interesting if they are willing to move Kawhiat a reasonable price. Huge injury risk but no doubt he has playoff dog in him.

I'd keep Flagg. Too much potential. If you get picks 2-4 that's where I'm hoping it gets you into the Booker discussion.
Even at 2, I think you might keep Harper. He's gonna be good.
