No way - how quickly people forget how tight it was in Rome. The US went into singles down 10.5 to 5.5

And then lost 16.5 to 11.5…..

You clearly didn't watch Sunday singles down - it got tiiggghhhtt

Yes, for about an hour the US had a path to the comeback. The cool thing about this format is you don't get bonus points for making it close on paper through 10 holes.

Oh you don't? Thanks for the heads up

Happy to help. I'd hate for you think it got really "tiiggghhhtt" half way through matches like that means something.

It's okay to just say/admit that the Euros are just better in a match play format…. It is about 1 point per match and not a 72 hole marathon. It's why The Cat Was bad in foursomes/fourball and Scottie doesn't preform at his best in this entire format. The Euros have always had a bunch of dogs

Yep

You have to play Scottie in both matches tomorrow as he is still better than our other players. Not sure who to lead off with in Saturday morning matches but Xander and Cantlay have to be in either of our first 2 matches. I would sit Morikawa, Henley, English and Burns.

JT and Moore should lead off.

Do you trust JT in foursomes? Or is this a situation where there really aren't a lot of good options, so you throw him out there hoping he's on one of those days where he's hot?
HeyAbbott
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Team USA doesn't have many good options for foursomes at this juncture.

A new guy we claimed off the waiver wire 5 minutes ago.

They announced the lineups.

Fitz/Aberg vs. DeChambeau/Young
Fleetwood Mac vs. English/Morikawa
Rahm/Hatton vs. Xander/Cantlay
MacIntyre/Hovland vs. Henley/Scheffler

Pairings are out.

Bryson/Young
English/Morikawa
Xander/Cantlay
Henley/Scheffler

Only change was swapping out Young for JT. Not very inspiring sending Henley back out there. Scheffler needs to be on point.

I don't get English and Morikawa at all. Yuck. And they're going against Fleetwood and McIlroy? Gross.

At least we're probably going to lose that one no matter who plays it

English and Morikawa again. Didn't Data golf analytics rate that pairing as one of the worsts?
Ghost of Pedro Flores

Keagan basically running back the same lineup for foresomes tomorrow. History may prove me wrong, but Morikowa/English need to be left off the buss tomorrow AM

If Hovland hits it like he does today and Henley/Scottie don't get a win, there is no hope.

Yep.

It's like the baseball coach throwing his 5th best arm against opponent's ace. You were going to lose anyway, might as well not waste a good performance from one of your guys.

I think based on what the other options are, and how he hit the ball today, Morikawa is playable.

The only players that were worse T2G today than English were Griffin and Burns, and you expect that out of Burns. Spaun was only slightly better, just never hit it close.

If we stay in this thing in the morning, gotta be ready to trot out Young, Bryson, Scottie, Xander, Cantlay, JT and find 2 more guys ready to fight in the afternoon, and not worry about hurting somebodies feelings because they don't play tomorrow. (I'm looking at you Keegan for sending out Burns instead of Xander today).

Can we stop trying to make Morikawa / English happen

4.5-3.5 tomorrow is the minimum that needs to happen. 7-9 into Sunday is doable.

Find a way to go 2-2 in the morning session and then squeeze out a win in the afternoon. 5-3 would obviously be even better, but 4.5 makes it at least interesting.

The Euro's always seem to have a pair of weaker golfers take down our big dogs in a match or 2 every Ryder Cup. It ends up a big boost for them. English and Morikawa playing to a tie in the morning would be huge.
birdman
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Drop either Morikawa or English and add Spaun.

Too late. The pairs are out. I don't like it either. Wish Keegan would have played in this cup. There aren't many good options.

Imagine coming up with statistically your worst duo for foursomes and then running it out there twice

I agree, it's stupid. Will Azinger be available to captain the team in Ireland?

I'll lose my mind if we also double down on Scheffler teeing off evens
Hubert J. Farnsworth

I read an article where Paul Azinger said that the US was stupid for choosing Bethpage Black for this Ryder Cup. He claimed that it was dumb to choose a course that our players aren't all that familiar with. The 2 guys most familiar with Bethpage are Young and Keegan(played there a lot in college). Outside of the rare major there, they don't play there very often. The Euro's don't care where they play. It seems like playing a course the US players aren't all that familiar with negates any type of home advantage they would have.

I still don't know what the US did to the course to help us out. The greens were definitely not super fast like you would assume they would be. That's typically an advantage against the Euro's.
Jawn Dough
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Players just need to nut up and go out there and play like they're supposed to. Seems to be too much over-thinking about who should play with whom and whatnot.
DannyDuberstein
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Azinger likes to bich. You could make that argument against basically every US Ryder Cup stop. They are pretty much all courses where a very occasional major is played and that's it. These guys don't regularly play any of them.

Spaun only slightly better than English today T2G, neither of them need to be out there tomorrow. But the other options are either JT (which commits him to all 5) or somebody who hit it worse than English did today.
aggiegolfer2012
How long do you want to ignore this user?
They've played the BMW or some other event there too. They play it way more than they play Whistling where they dominated or Hazeltine.

Also, his point is dumb in 2025. Back when he played, the Euros played the Euro tour, now they all play here. So it's not like you're getting an advantage playing at a regular tour stop, they're all going to play it regularly too,

Bunk Moreland
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Imo the main difference is euro golfers grow up playing in tougher conditions and on less pristine courses WAY more than elite prep school Americans do, many of whom are the ones who become pros due to having that the means necessary to practice, get coaching from the best and ultimately become elite.

When you saw Hatton decide not to move that branch, and Rahm hit from that tall nasty shot and both stick it within 20 feet...that's just gutting. Our guys would spend all day crying and they just said **** it and nutted up.

That said...IF our guys are hitting it straight and well, we can be great. But euros have always been more creative and better to adapt to any condition that isn't perfect.
