Maybe included LIV golfers? Rahm, Hatton and Bryson seem like better overall golfers than most Americans.

You can't create the culture they have.
Once they've gotten to a certain level, all their best players come here and then they all become pretty close because of their background. They play practice rounds together, they travel together, it's just different.

Everybody likes to poke fun at the 'boys club' of the US, but it's essentially a boys club in Europe, just bigger. There was never a discussion of Harry Hall taking a struggling Shane Lowry's spot. No discussion of grabbing somebody playing well from the European Tour, the only guy that made it that's a full time Euro Tour player made it as an auto pick and played one session out of four.

You can't fake what they have. If there was no real tour in America and our 10-20 best players had to pack up and go overseas to make a living, I'm sure they'd become closer because they'd gravitate to people that are similar to them. But they don't have to.

Maybe the new USGA national team helps with that overtime and they'll play together more as amateurs, but that will take time.

Uh yeah, that's what im saying. You don't create what they have overnight. Some of them are on record winning this is more important than a major. You can't compete with that. Im not saying one is better than the other but damn, it will take several teams to change the philosophy if thsts your plan.

We did include Liv golfers Bryson played who else from live would you even think about taking? Sure, I would take Patrick reed over someone like morikawa but morikawa should have never been on the team to begin with.

I'd take Mickelson vs Henley or Ben Griffin.

A next level down, but still important Tony Finau is down, Berger can't stay healthy, Max messed with his swing.

I watched the 2021 Ryder Cup (I realize max wasn't there; but he came along strong pretty quick after) thinking we had our foundation for the next 3-4 cups, and most of those guys are either significantly worse or just not around at all.

Or should we weight the last 6 months more so you have players who are hot vs riding top 25 finishes from 2 years ago.

I think it's all about the makeup of the team.

Look no further than the selection of Morikawa to see what's wrong with how we are doing it. He had been playing poorly for a really long time but he still got a spot because he met the REAL criteria which was he is a major champion who was close to qualifying but didn't make the cut. He was put on the team because of stuff he did several years ago; not because he's playing well now.

I think this mindset extends to our selection of assistant captains as well.

This crap about not sending out rookies in the first foursome session is more of the same nonsense. Like you've gotta pay your dues or something. Meanwhile, the Euros are picking Aberg when he hasn't even played in a major before and sending him out both foursome sessions and once in fourball. Doesn't feel like the kind of thing we would ever do.

We need to lean into the stat nerd stuff which I think is related to the above.

The other thing that might not actually be true but it feels true is that you need people who will putt to try to make it. Feels like we just had guys lagging stuff up there while the Euros are putting with pace and trying to make everything they look at.

Also, you need your best players to play well and ours have been awful. This is the biggest factor by far. But if you fix the other stuff maybe we are only down two or three going into tomorrow and have a chance to make it interesting.

At the end of the day, if putts aren't made there will be no victory.

You gotta have a group that buys in. Look at 2008. On paper maybe one of the worst US teams but they rolled Europe. I think you burn it down and start over. More young guys like Clanton and Koivun who aren't poisoned yet by PGAT success. Make this their thing.

I watched a show on the golf channel about how the Euro's got competitive and started winning Ryder Cups. It started with a young core of players that legitimately cared. Seve, Faldo, Langer, Torrance, and Tony Jacklin as captain, who was sick of losing to the US. They were young, but gave our big dogs a hard fight in the early 80's before finally winning in 85 and 87, with a tie in 89. The Americans won in 93 at the Belfry and we haven't won overseas since. The US needs to find some guys that legitimately hate losing to these guys and want to change it. I don't think the current crop of America's best are those guys.

Ryder Cup is a putting competition, and the Euros just know how to get it done.

Why are we getting paid? Who offered it?

We are getting paid bc our players *****ed last time and then got blow back and said they would give it to charity instead. It's ****ing ridiculous.

Is it why we lost? No. But does it show how our guys don't give a **** about this event and the euros do? Yes.
