Look at Jeudy. The guy was drafted with the 15th overall pick. Bust. Then he has 6 games with a qb who can throw the ball downfield and he has absolute monster games.
Not saying Mingo is as good as Jeudy but the QB impacts production

Jeudy was thought to be the best route runner coming out since Amari Cooper. Mingo is physical receiver that has relied on his size & speed to get open in college. Hopefully he puts it together.
While we usually do this sort of thing, I think Revel is a little different than what we've seen in the past. For starters he tore his ACL only and had surgery in October. ACL's aren't what they use to be and guys come back 100% more times than not. Plus his surgery was done by our team doctor and i he should be mostly ready for the season. Secondly, Revel was a first round lock and likely a top 20ish pick if he didn't get hurt. He was stupid good value in the 3rd.
Heard the same thing about Jaylon Smith and Jonathon Brooks... lol. Revel is super talented but even if healthy he has a huge jump in competition from ECU. But I think he's a great value where they got him and I'll be rooting for the kid.
By the way, did anyone else watch Phil Mafah's highlights and see a bigger / slower DeMarco Murray? He's a smooth strider... sees the hole, cuts and goes... shifty enough to make defenders miss in the open field... big enough to keep moving after contact.
The Jaylon Smith example always annoys me when it is used. The guy made the pro bowl as a starting linebacker in the NFL two years after suffering an injury that most humans struggle to walk normally after. Normal people literally can't even jog and walk with a limp the rest of their lives after what he had, and this guy was chasing down Alvin Kamara on a full open field sprint within 30 months.

Jaylon Smith was a medical/sports miracle
Agreed. I think what rubbed a lot of people the wrong way was his attitude, "swagger" if you will, and how we gave him a huge contract that didn't pan out.
No matter what!
Epstein didn't do, you know, the thing...
I'm the rare Astros/Cowboys/Spurs fan. We do exist

That's exactly why Jaylon Smtih is a good example. It took a medical miracle for that 2nd round pick to pay off. Even when it did, we still lost over a year on his cheap contract. It was a bad pick based on the injury and a bad pick based on team building and cap restrictions.
The "good" thing with Revel is that his injury was pretty early last season, and we have all the medical info we could want on him. That doesn't mean he can play worth a damn, but at least he should be playing pretty early in the season
The Jaylon Smith pick still cracks me up. The ironic part of it all is... Jaylon had a massive insurance injury policy on himself and it paid out big chunks of cash for every round Jaylon fell. He should have been a 5th-7th round pick at best and this would have benefited him financially.
Ultimately, the biggest winner in the Cowboys picking Jaylon in the 2nd was the friggin insurance company!
I suppose my final thoughts of this draft are... I hope this is a sign of things to come because, on paper, we did extremely well.
We've been so poor in drafting & overall player acquisition the past 2 years and this draft really highlighted that. We got some REALLY GOOD football players, and yet, we spent too much time being upset because we simply didn't have enough picks to fill all the holes.
If Jerry, McClay, & this new coaching staff really want to impress me... make a deal for a legit #2 WR before the season starts and lets roll. We can deal with the RB by committee situation another year, but we need a real deal WR to pair with CD or else we are probably a bottom half offense again.
Sounds like they tried to get a trade done for Pickens but nothing came out of it.
"Leading up to the draft, the Cowboys had discussions with an AFC North team regarding a veteran wide receiver, but nothing came to fruition, according to multiple sources."
Logical assumption is Pickens. Just don't see the fit w/ Shotty priortizing people & culture https://t.co/8oTQA34dzB
He's going to have every chance to succeed. He has a good QB with Dak and CD to take some pressure off. Our line better be good with all the draft picks we've spent on it. We'll see. As I said before, I generally don't like highly drafted bust. They tend to have all the talent and none of the self discipline needed to be successful. Hopefully Mingo was just in a bad situation and needed a change of scenery
This is what PFF spits out if you search for the free agent WRs who haven't signed yet:
7 - Amari Cooper (30) 44 - Keenan Allen (33 and looking like he's declining fast) 77 - Diontae Johnson (28) - way too much drama. No thanks. 105 - Elijah Moore (25) - as long as we're collecting former Ole Miss WRs....lol 139 - Tyler Boyd (30) 167 - Nelson Agholor (32) 223 - Robert Woods (33) 244 - Tyler Lockett (32)
So yeah, based on that, if we're going the FA route, you gotta think Amari is the best of what's left.

Lockett signed with the titans….I badly wanted him

We may have something in Mingo when 4 gets back. What are yall seeing from him in these clips🤔 pic.twitter.com/SYMXpx8rou

Man I hope so... I really do!
I know a couple things. It takes a lot of NFL WR 2-3 years to really figure it out. During Mingo's first two seasons he played with a terrible QB & a back-up QB with a sinking ship coach.
Assuming his attitude and worth ethic are right, he should be much more productive this year.

he can clearly get space...just wondering if it's the correct space. some of those routes look pretty strange ha. I'm still bullish on the kid (out of blind hope)
The two guys that would likely be available are Williams in Detroit and Pickens in Pittsburgh. Neither are sterling character guys, but this team NEEDS someone else. You'd have to seriously insulate them and hope that being in contract years motivates them to get their act together.
Best move imo is call a team like , houston or GB who have TONS of receivers and see what they'll take for some of their "odd man out" situations.
They might have a better overall WR corps than we do, but I can guarantee you they don't have an 'odd man out' that is better than Tolbert.
We've got an elite #1, a pretty good Utility guy (Turpin), and 3 or 4 other guys that are average #3 guys. I'm adding a legit #2 type or I'm not adding anybody at all.
It's not great history with Dak though. One of the biggest reasons Dallas kicked him to the curb was because he was never available and that really pissed Dak off.
I remember there were some hard feelings, but he needs a job and Dak needs a #2. Rather have him then Pickens, who is half crazy and wants a new mega deal
you know Jerry is watching the Isaiah Bond situation too
