Just had a smaller coachwhip come to the water tray we have on the ground for the birds earlier, but he was too fast for me to get a picture.

What kind of snake is this? This is in Pennsylvania.

Looks like a Northern Water Snake but I've only caught one and have maybe seen 1-2 others in person. I'm not going to pretend I have a good grasp on all of the snakes of PA.

It's definitely a nonvenomous water snake. I believe it would be a northern water snake in PA.

Edit: Got beat while I was typing my response, dammit.

I regularly see several weekly on the rock/ grass roads at the ranch that ive not been able to photograph. Blue/ gray coloring, 4 or 5 ft and very fast. Seems like they're always near tall grass to escape in. When approaching in a truck, they haul ass. My regular posting of the cottonmouths are boring/ too easy. I'll try walking up closer next time. Curious what they are but not venomous snakes. Houston area- saw one this afternoon.

The wife found this guy hanging out on the side of the house. If it's higher than your hat, it must be a rat.

If my wife saw a snake on our house, she would absolutely, no doubt, burn it to the ground!!! LOL

We would definitely have to move out, sell the house, and go find another house with no snakes... That is a FACT!!!

Coming to the authorities here:
Was talking with a friend that said his grandparents told him that rattlesnakes emit a watermelon smell when they are agitated... Is that legit? Had never heard that and wondering if any on here at ever heard of that.

Per Google copperheads have been described as having a cucumber or melon like musk. That is not something mentioned for rattlesnakes.

Now water snakes smell like hot garbage if you ask me. They stink so bad they'd knock a buzzard off a **** wagon.

The musk of most snakes smells worse than ass. It's among the worst smells ever. Ask me how I know.

This is correct. Many times I've smelled a copperhead near me that I could not locate. It's distinctive but in my experience not super common. I have never had that experience with rattlesnakes. I've heard a few though.

I forgot if I asked this before. I can't figure out what type of snake I encountered a very long time ago. I was playing out in the woods in what is now 47. Walking under a branch I had a snake go right over my head. It seemed pretty big like 4'. It was colored like Indian or Flint corn. I've googled and can't find anything that looks like that snake.

We've got a juvi corn snake and the damned thing is so defensive he musks constantly. Makes handling him pretty annoying. Hoping he chills with time.

I went to grab a rat snake out of a neighbor's garage and I grabbed a pair of gloves from my truck toolbox. The dad said something about not being afraid of being bitten.. I told him I wasnt trying to not get bitten but washing that crap off my hands was damn near impossible. Dumb thing did tag me on my forearm too. He was grumpy as I think they had been poking at him with a broom before I walked over.

The juvie ones will chill out. Just make sure to feed it in a separate container and handle it a lot otherwise so it doesn't become conditioned to you opening the container being feeding time.

Frequently when I went in the barns of those enclosures - which I rarely did. I was a zoo educator.
