East Loop?
The former Frank's is actually about half a mile, give or take, inside the projected point where the inner east loop would cross 1179.

The planned 1179 widening project would put a roundabout in place of the current S-curve/intersection at Steep Hollow/Murka. Plus widening 1179 would put the roadway right up against the current gas pumps.

Now I haz a sad.

I don't get the fascination with roundabouts. Just straighten out the curve of death and be done with it.

As they continue to develop along steep hollow, people needing to turn onto 1179 from steep hollow will require something other than a single stop sign. The options are 4 way stop, traffic light, a roundabout, or something even more exotic. Which would you choose?

With the relative traffic volumes on 1179 vs steep hollow, a roundabout about is most efficient and most people going straight on 1179 would only have to slow down a bit instead of stopping. Also with a 2 lane roundabout, the inside lane on 1179 should barely have to curve.

There's also the fact that the last iteration of the plan that I saw called for medians from Boonville Rd out to Steep Hollow/Murka. So people will need places to turn around if they can't left turn into or out of driveways or side roads. (There would be another roundabout at Coyote Run.)

Not going to lie, part of the charm of going to chicken oil was the wild ride that was the parking lot. Will be strange to not wonder if you'll bottom out or pop a tire
I always imagined that it was like what parking on the moon would be like.

I know the restaurant was totally gutted but it looks like they're re-orienting it to have the dining room and kitchen switch places. For reference, this (my photo) is what it used to look like, with the fire damage on the rear (Old College) side.

The dining room was not damaged by the fire except for smoke damage. The fire was isolated in the kitchen and storage to the rear where the fire originated.

Looks like they built a whole new and enlarged one. My kids and I have been driving by once a week and watching the build.

Holleman Tavern located behind the Valero on S. Holleman.
10/10

Just discovered this hidden gem. Sports bar. Great food, reasonable priced drinks, huge bar, great service, tons of TV's, live music upstairs.

Recommend their fried mushrooms, These are very unique, sliced & fried, huge basket full that can feed 4+.

A+ burger & club sandwich. Reasonable prices.

Highly recommend

Mentioned Holleman Tavern in my defense of at least trying Red's before writing them off without ever going to the place. We go every month or two.

Tried Red's yesterday. Service was good, although they messed up a couple of our orders. Limited menu right now - some items we wanted to try were not available. The Hot Bird chicken sandwich is not spicy AT ALL. Overall it was alright.

We had a similar experience. Very slow bar service, waitress was great. Very good mixed drinks. Wife had the chicken and she said the same thing-- not spicy but still good flavor. I had the club and the proteins are good but the bread was just basic wheat bread which was a disappointment as I was expecting a baguette style or something.

Good tots!

Any word on who purchased the lot behind the run down La Quinta last week? BCAD hasn't updated yet, and usually takes weeks to get updated.

When we went last week they said probably 3 weeks before the menu would be completely available.

Yes, but it was gutted during renovations. When they had the back torn off, you could see through the building, it was an empty shell. If I recall, the dining room area was mostly on the College Avenue side, the kitchen was mostly on the Old College side. The new design makes it look like those have flipped.

You could only see through parts of the building. The whole side along S College remained intact

SIAP, but my family tried Wildflyer's Navasota brewery for brunch yesterday. I loved the setup and the food was good!

I almost hate to share the secret of Honey B Ham to the masses of Texags, but it is one of the best combination good sandwich, fair price, quickly prepared lunch places in town and they deserve a shout out. Eat lunch there several times a month. Sad to see the ownership change.

I know nothing about their food but I've driven by there many times and I thought it was closed down. Does it shut down before dark? I've never seen the lights on.

I think they close at 2 or something. Only ever had lunch there.

Honeybaked Ham & Deli and the late Honey-B Ham are/were different businesses. Honey-B has been gone for years now.

Many years ago, there used to be a business literally called "Honey-B Ham & Deli" located near the Southwest Parkway Kroger. Tax records indicate it existed from 1995 to 2009. I don't remember eating there, pretty sure it was where Taz is now.

They served meatloaf once a week, and the following day you could get a meatloaf sandwich made from the leftovers.

I called them one day to double check that they were open before making the trip. Lady on the phone was super taken aback that I was asking if they were open. Gave me this whole, "I've been here 18 years" speech. Was odd. That said, I do really like their food.

I used to eat there a lot when they were in the Kroger center at Texas and SW Pkwy.

I should have read until the end. I didn't realize they were 2 different businesses. I think Honey B was next to where Taz is but my memory gets fuzzy on that.

This doesn't surprise me. I've heard of numerous run-ins with some woman that works over there. Notoriously bad attitude.
