It's amazing!

I'm going on vacation next week though so I don't expect it to last.

Has anyone been to Monks Indian Bistro?
FlyRod

Had takeout from them. I'd rate them the best Indian in town. YMMV.

Definitely near the top of my list to try soon. I find Indian food menus to be overwhelming and I'm really not sure what to try. It's why I usually end up at Taz for their buffet.

Monk doesn't have a buffet but they do have an unlimited thali lunch special during weekday lunches that I really want to try to see what I like best. It's $15 Vegetarian and $16 Non- vegetarian.

So I have not had enough Indian food to know …. What are the 2-3 "go to" items I should try. Not a vegetarian!

Do you like spicy, very spicy, or no spice. That may determine direction of recommendations.

Spicy.

I am using chicken as an example but you could substitute almost any meat in most dishes.

Chicken Vindaloo (Very spicy - Also has chunks of Potato, i.e. aloo- One of my favorites)
Chicken Biryani (Medium spice - Rice/meat dish - very flavorful)
Standard popular dishes - Butter chicken or Chicken Tikka Masala (Not very spicy but you can tell them to spice it up)
Gobi (Cauliflower) Manchurian/65 (I know this one is not meat, but it is outstanding)

What's the spiciest, non-carb? Problem with Indian food is all of the extra carbs from the sauces for me. I gain 3-4 pounds every time I eat Indian food. I could eat it every day though.

I'm a big fan of Chicken 65, but we're getting off the "coming and going" topic.

One last response and then we can move to the restaurant reviews.

Most curries and tikka are low-carb, especially if they use yogurt vs. pure cream(higher fats)...

Chili Chicken is usually very spicy and is typically chicken breast and similar to Tandoori chicken or Chicken lollipops, i.e. meat and spice, not really any additional sauce per se.

The Gobi, Butter Chicken, and Tiki Masala I mentioned earlier are pretty much to low-carb and can be spiced as hot as you wish...

The removing of Rice and Naan will help you avoid most of your carbs in Indian food.

The Wacked Out Weiner food truck is transitioning to a spot in the Post Oak Mall food court. Only doing catering events until they reopen in the mall.

Signage is up for Lapels Laundromat "The Future of Garment Care" in the new strip center on Texas Ave, next to the ILT High School campus (former CSPD building).

Two is pretty ambitious. But, College Station has hit some population targets recently that puts it on the radar for second locations of existing restaurants. We have already seen it with McAlister's and wouldn't be surprised to see it with places like Olive Garden, Chilis, or Panera.

As for guesses on location for LM, I'd say Century Square still makes sense. Second location maybe in the new development next to Costco. Another possibility is a pad site at Jones Crossing.

Yes to the new development near Costco!!! We need more restaurants out this way!!! Different demographics

Not enough traffic that side of town. They need to go in at Century Square and Jones Crossing. Two areas that are booming and have the population density.

But if we follow the advice of some of the posters on the Wolf Pen amphitheater thread, "if you build it, they will come."

Is DiMassi's buffet only or can you get standard takeout meals too? I assume the latter but figure I'd ask the more experienced folks here.

Twisted Noodle Cafe that was next to Subway on Southwest Parkway (pretty sure the actual address is Texas Ave. because that's the front of the shopping center) is gone, and there is a sign hanging up (looks like a temporary sign) that says Kung Fu Noodles and Dumplings. I'm not sure if it's a rebranding or if one noodle place closed and someone else thought that'd be a good place for a noodle shop. I'm not sure when it's opening or any details. I've just seen the old sign and photos of food go away and new sign go up.

Maybe it's the people that own Kung Fu Tea.

PJ's Coffee (2818 and Welsh) has a sign and awning up now; also signs for drive-thru and drive-thru exit.

still no idea when they are opening; says "coming soon"

A legit soup dumpling place would rock. And if there are posters from that cheesy 70 s tv show on the walls, even better lol.

Not sure but my husband thought that the sign said 'gourmet cheese' and was looking forward to a cheese shop in town.

Maybe they'll serve burgers and beer while you wait.
