Not sure but my husband thought that the sign said 'gourmet cheese' and was looking forward to a cheese shop in town.

I would LOVE a cheese shop

Twisted Noodle Cafe that was next to Subway on Southwest Parkway (pretty sure the actual address is Texas Ave. because that's the front of the shopping center) is gone, and there is a sign hanging up (looks like a temporary sign) that says Kung Fu Noodles and Dumplings. I'm not sure if it's a rebranding or if one noodle place closed and someone else thought that'd be a good place for a noodle shop. I'm not sure when it's opening or any details. I've just seen the old sign and photos of food go away and new sign go up.
Spotted that today too... I really hope it's just a rename, Twisted Noodle was soo good and I loved watching them making the noodles
Why yes, yes I really do run the best (and only) BCS ICEE Guide!

Thanks for the interest. We do have a 95% final iteration. We are not ready to share specific items. We are willing however to share a fact sheet of "things we do".

Handmade fresh 7 inch tortillas that go straight from griddle to taco. They won't sit around like a tortilla machine or how some places let theirs sit before service.

Drive thru for convenience with 3 modes of access to the property, The southbound left hand turn off texas is dedicated with a median cut. Access is way more simple than several other very popular drive thrus in town.

Puffy tacos. The San Antonio classic.

Chargrilled meats. We have a hog of a chargrill and will cook the meats with care.

Breakfast tacos served all day. We have the standards plus a unique signature menu.

6am-10pm daily with the intent of eventually going 24 hours.

Robust catering.

A "choose your protein" section to go with our tacos classicos. You craft your taco with the style of set up and protein.

Can we get fresh homemade waffles on the menu? Like one buttermilk option and one blueberry? This town is craving fresh waffles. It's an actual demand. Don't understand why we have to wait for Waffle House. Where are the entrepreneurs?

We need a proper dim-sum restaurant

I just can't believe nobody is doing this here yet. We would be regulars. Nam Cafe did a few items as a special order ahead of time deal a year or so back, I wish they would again. But a proper push the steam carts around and point at what you want would be so great in this town. Saturday only maybe?

I see a Houston trip in my future.

When I talked to a few restaurant owners about it a couple years ago, the issue was staffing. It takes a lot of people to do proper dim sum.

I see Ace Hardware is having a grand re-opening this weekend due to new ownership. Anyone know anything about how that will impact Bear Mountain? I always wondered about its future after REI opened.

Between the homemade puffy tacos and fresh tortilla operations I think we will have our hands full making sure we do those well. A fresh waffle operation doesn't really fit into the flow or brand for this model, at least until we know we're good at the core operations. Perhaps there's another local operator that will do them......

Bear Mountain area should be converted into same day or next day lawnmower repair, knife sharpening, axe sharpening. It will be impossible to compete with the large big box for outdoor gear.

Stella Southern Cafe actually has the Banger Burger on the menu now. It's just called the 1802 Burger. Harvey Washbangers' address was 1802 Texas Ave. S.

JD Sports is coming to Post Oak Mall, you'd think if this mall was truly dying a major sports retailer wouldn't set up shop there.

It wasn't that long ago that Conn's came to the mall. How did that work out?

The whole chain went bankrupt, the location here closing had nothing to do with the mall.

We go occasionally, when the whole mall is definitely on the downswing. I feel like we're going to need a large capital outlay to revitalize the area, and CBL is in "milk the dying asset as much as you can" mode, and that certainly doesn't fit their business model.

So, with the owner of the mall not wanting to invest, the local government wanted to step in, and that just made matters worse, IMHO.

I go to Murdoch's a fair amount but don't ever need to enter the actual mall to shop there.

Ronin says they are "relocating" and will "resume restaurant and farm operations in August 2025."

My guess is something other than their moonlight dinners is in the offing.

They have plans for dinners on Friday nights of football weekends. They are installing AC in the big barn for that.

The funny thing is they didn't. The City was more interested in a "post-mall" asset than anything else, I don't think they ever mentioned that it would have dual entrances (mall + outside) or working with CBL Properties to pump interest into the mall.

Murdoch's doesn't actually open into the mall at all.

Having a large anchor store obviously vacant on the freeway side of the mall doesn't make it worse?

OK…. To me, it screams, "DYING MALL".

CoCS buying Macy's and letting it sit vacant is only hastening the demise.

Had they not overbid the guy who wanted to turn it into a family fun center, it wouldn't look quite as post-apocalyptic from the road.

I love an Ace Hardware but this one in College Station needs improvement. The lighting for one is horrible, staff not overly knowledgeable but I still keep going.

Never-the-less, the mall is not exactly an emerging retail utopia. I wish it was. I love malls. I'm a child of the '80s.

Covid may have accelerated things, but probably not by much. All the trends were already there. Online shopping, demographics, etc. the death of malls was inevitable pre-Covid and they still aren't completely dead yet.
