What I'd like to see is that sign at the corner of College Ave. an Villa Maria change from
"Coming Soon: Shulman ETC.' And instead "Large Building For Sale".

Or maybe what would be better is that coming soon is actually fulfilled now that the city has finished the lake work next to the building.

How about Main Event takeover the building and instead of a bowling alley they have a skating rink instead.

This place can't handle more than 2-3 movie theaters.
It certainly doesn't need another bowling alley.
We'd all like it but I'd give it 2-3 years tops.
Most Main Event type of places in the cities are suffering as it is.
They ain't coming here.

If Schulman's ever opens it will make bank with all the families with kids playing at Legends. Literally thousands of people looking for something to do, and many of them have younger siblings getting dragged across the state that will need entertainment between games.

I hope so and I'm not against any of this. I am skeptical. 2-3 grand stations might be a bit much for this area right now.

What is coming to the "park" at Foster and Walton, behind Layne's and Torchy's and all that?

Shipley's has been sold to a private equity firm out of California. Sorry if behind paywall.

Shipley Do-Nuts acquired by Levine Leichtman Capital Partners

Sign up for Wild Grain Cafe where Babe's Donuts was on Texas Ave. Did a bit of digging and it looks like Wild Garlic Pizza (formerly at Kinderhill) will be there, though unclear if permanently or occasionally.

Ppft the corp decides the supply chain. When they contract for cheaper and inferior ingredients the quality will drop no matter how good local ownership is.

I'm looking at you whataburger.

Exactly. To this day, Layne's might be the only place I've eaten that is the same or better after being bought, and that's only because they have spicy tenders now.

Not spicy as in hot, but spicy as in seasoned. They have a little kick.

(Good to see that Walton is marked for getting sidewalks as well, although TBA)

Speaking of Shipleys, it looks like they are about to build a new store at the Villa Maria Walmart at 2818. Any news on this? Is this a relocation?
Walk softly and carry a big stick! Make sure the big stick makes big boom noises and flashy bright lights.

Certainly possible. Their SM says the announcement is tomorrow.

Quote:

"The formal opening will be as soon as we get the stamp of approval on the parking lot, because it's adjacent to the building," said Tina Duncan, the brand protector/marketing specialist for the Chicken Oil Company and its sister restaurant the Dixie Chicken. "It looks like it's going to be Monday, Aug. 4, and so we're excited. So once we get that initial approval that we're good to go, we'll open the doors to the public. We'll probably make that announcement on Friday."
