The 12thman.com calendar is usually pretty quick at updating things, and since I subscribed to the softball calendar, the changes get pushed down to my phone. Easy way to stay up to date.

UCLA getting pounded tonight by Northwestern. That should get the SEC a 6th top 8 seed. Oregon and FSU getting the other 2.

As we close out the next 8 get interesting as the possibility of 4 more SEC hosts still exists. Alabama is back in the mix as is Miss St. Virginia Tech may be on the wrong side of the bubble. If the SEC gets 10 host sites and the ACC, Big 10 and Big 12 each get 2 only expect lots of wailing and gnashing of teeth from the rest of the country

Oregon getting whipped by Mich St early. Also Texas Tech spit the bit and lost to BYU tonight. The stretch is fun to watch now that the Ags seem to have the hay in the barn.

So…

If Florida can beat Oklahoma today, good chance Texas A&M finishes the season as the #1 team in the Top 25 and the RPI.

Finishing the regular with single digit losses and ranked #1 in the RPI and staking a hell of a claim for the #1 overall seed is quite an accomplishment for Ford and the staff.

This is going to go down as arguably the best regular season in Aggie Softball history, and is being accomplished in only Ford's third year here.

Will be interesting to see what other schools end up here. The 2 seed should be around 30 rpi. Cal, Liberty, FAU, Washington, UCF, Nevada all in the right range. Seems the Florida schools will have hosts within driving range and maybe Cal as well. I have never been able to get those right but fun to think about while we wait. The past several weeks we have played top 8 match ups. Regionals will feel more like an opening season home tournament

if they end up winning the series, id be shocked if UCLA isnt top 8. the biggest question to me is who among florida, arkansas, tennessee, lsu, texas, gets left out?

Oregon falling all the way to 16 in the rpi makes it interesting. I have been back and forth but I today I am leaning toward only one of them getting the top 8 seed

If both UCLA and Oregon get top 8 then both Arkansas and LSU get left out

My best stab at it:

1. OU
2. Texas A&M
3. Texas
4. Florida St.
5. UCLA
6. Tennessee
7. Arkansas
8. Arizona

Oregon's RPI is in the high teens, their SOS is almost 60, and their average victory RPI is 114. They don't deserve to host a super.

I think the NCAA is going to have a mandate to spread the national seeds around to as many conferences as possible.

I agree after Oregon fell from 11 to 16 last night that is too far a stretch. Having top 8 seeds from Big 12 and Big 10 that didn't win the conference and lost the series to the champ who was the only other quality team in the league is a tough for me but I could see it

I included UCLA because they're going to be close enough to the Top 8 to make it plausible, and because they're UCLA.

I chose Arizona because their RPI was 11 and Tech's was a lot lower.

yep, and regionaly too. why i think both ucla and oregon would be top 8. wouldnt even be shocked to see texas tech since they may want to reward the top 4-5 conference champions. or does the softball committee typically just look closely at rpi?

Last year top 16 rpi got hosts but not exactly that order but they do seem to value rpi, kpi and Top RPI records

Sometimes I look at the predictions at warrennolan, for games in progress and recently finished games. Did just a few minutes ago. Prediction was for TN to beat us 5-4 in the third game.

Interesting. That bracket has us in the night session. The pdf version before they added the teams had us in the day session

Player notes part - mentions some big names that are being matched and passed in the record books by some of the current players.

Team note part - a few of the accomplishments. Winning road games is great !! AND, it's only the third season for Ford and her staff.

Note that we lost only two SEC series this year (should have won at least one of those!) whilst the sooners lost three. That's a pretty darn good comparison since the sooners have been a powerhouse for many years now and now in the same conference.

But we were soooo darn close to winning the regular season !!

Here's a quote from Karen Weekly after that last game:

She might be right, we might not run rule them, but damn. Between this, the shouting match at home plate, the Aggie Twitter post. Looks like there's not much love lost between these programs.

So glad we came out of there with a series win.

ok, riddle me this. 2nd would have Tenn facing the sips and us facing Okla. I guess she feels she had a better chance vs the Sooners.....doubtful but okay. We will see one of sips 2nd line of pitchers in hopes they advance to a final vs
OU. Interesting strategy
