Or she knows Pickens has thrown around 165+ innings this season and has been a little less effective lately vs. good hitting teams.

And I'm glad UF got the 6th seed and USCe got the 7th seed.

I was surprised that Pickens had actually thrown that many innings. I've noticed recently that they have been protecting her and dialing down her appearances.

Pickens in my mind is the best pitcher in the country. Better than the million dollar arm Canady.

We won't ever start that early. The game before us is at 3:00 central. They allowed 2:40 for a game. That's comical. Even on Thursday they only allowed 3:00 for each game. They also usually allow 30 min between the two games. I don't know why they schedule them so close together.

S carolina has a good team but Alabama has pretty good history at this tournament. A&M has a less than stellar record at the SEC tournament. Unlike baseball playing more is good in softball. Need to keep everyone in a regular rhythm. At the most we could play 3 games. Like a regular weekend series

For those newer to following this program. A&M has 2 total win in the SEC tournament since joining the conference. As it happens both have been against USCe

Interesting, I do not think they (Arkansas) will be #1 in the other polls tomorrow, but we will see.

Only the USA Softball and the coaches polls are legit polls. Softball America and D1 softball are the opinions of particular publications. They are fun but I take them with a grain of salt whether we are ranked higher or lower than the others.

I'm sorry, what? How do you put a team 5th in the SEC standings, #1 in the country? Its not like they have some overwhelming RPI (5th) or gaudy record (not even 40 wins yet) either.

It almost feels like Softball America is a poll based off of that week's performance rather than the entire body of work. Seems like they've always been the one to drastically move teams up or down the most. We went from #2 -> #6 -> #2 in the past 2 weeks alone.

the rankings are just another way for the " darlings" of the softball world to shake up the stranglehold of positioning the SEC holds. Now teams, qualified or not can justify a top 16 spot.
and thusly secure a home in Regionals.

I agree with all on the Softball America poll. I post it because it is the first one of the week, it is always different from the others and so leads to a lot of comments.

Of course, if we had not lost 2 of 3 to the Hogs at Davis ...

Rankings don't mean anything as far as seeding. Only rankings that matter are RPI and KPI.

Wouldn't have mattered. At one point this season, they put FSU above us, even though we went 2-0 against them at their place.

Georgia falling out of the RPI top 25 and Virginia moving in changed some records against RPI top 25. That seems to be big factor for the committee in the past. OF the top 16 RPI I am bumping Duke for Texas Tech.

SEC 8 hosts, ACC 4, Big 10 2, Big 12 2

Duke, Alabama, and Miss St are my first 3 out. Conference tournaments won't mean much but teams in the 7-10 range and teams at the back end can either solidify their position or slide back. The rest really much move much if any.

You have to love that we have more wins vs top 25 RPI teams than anyone in the country.

We really do make a strong case for the #1 overall seed.

I think the 0 bad losses sticks out to me more than anything. I feel like in years past we've had a lot of really good wins but then had 1 or 2 bad losses that really hurt us! Good job by Coach Ford & co to keep them focused throughout every game

As of today we have the strongest resume. If OU wins the regular season and tournament I think they will get it but we are pretty solidly locked into top 2 seed.

Sadly we had 17 top 25 wins going into the weekend. We picked up 2 more, then lost 2 when Georgia fell back.

Also pretty well locked into #2 strength of schedule.

It has been a long time since college softball was this wide open as to who the top team is. We have a strong case for number 1 but it isn't clear cut IMO that we are the top team. There clearly isn't a dominant team this year which makes the tournament a lot more exciting.

This is true. Even last year the only bad loss I can think of was one to Weber State early in the year. I remember a home loss to Kansas but I think they were a tournament team.

The staff has done a good job keeping them focused, but it seems like the kind of players they're bringing in already have that mindset.

Maybe this is hyperbole but it seems that we're entering into a golden age for college softball.

I just hope we (collectively) don't mess it up. It's a beautiful sport.

Certainly didn't get that impression listening to the TV announcers talk all about the Tenn pitcher this weekend. They didn't have much to say about Lefty beyond all-American, golden ticket, A&Ms Ace.

Lefty did get 2 Ws though.


They did do a tiny bit of research before for the Sunday game and found the story about Trish taking away her curve ball and developing her into a rise ball pitcher.

I wonder how the Missouri loss doesn't count as bad. Is it because we were on the road?

Missouri is a quad 1 loss. I only counted quad 3 and quad 4 as bad losses in my chart even though I consider quad 2 losses bad losses as well I don't think the committee penalizes teams much for a quad 2 loss outside the impact it already has on rpi

The Pickens love fest did get a little out of control for a while during the middle of the game. It even carried over onto Rally Cap last night.

Speaking of Ford, I wonder how much recognition she gets for SEC Coach of the Year?

Last night the gump on Rally Cap said Gasso deserved it, which will probably end up happening. Ford, the MSU coach and the South Carolina coach all should get a serious look, though. All of them succeeded beyond expectations.

Gasso had her worst season in awhile despite all the elite recruits, and she only won the conference outright because of a rain-delay cancelling of our Georgia game. It's bullsh*t we can't play the Georgia game.
