Micah is in line for 150-200 million. He has 21 million guaranteed. I would hold out too if he has not been offered a reasonable contract.

Now, who now's what has been said or offered from either side. I'm not picking a side. But to act like Micah having 21 million guaranteed this year means anything is crazy.

But what was posted was an implication that he could be cut and given no money. Or any player that holds out is holding out because of that fact.

We all understand why he's holding out. He should also be fined every day he's not practicing and he shouldn't be paid his weekly check if he doesn't play games.

I think he'd be fine with getting cut and given no money. A team would sign him to a huge deal within 5 minutes. What you are talking about doesn't matter to the players who are top 1-5 at their position. It only matters to the lower tier players.

You're right, but those are also the only players who would hold out. The guys who are making little to no guaranteed money are practicing and playing as much as they can. So the conversation about holding out doesn't really apply to those guys.

Agreed. I just think for the people holding out, nothing really matters (fines, guaranteed money they have, etc). Given the amount of money they will make, all of that is peanuts.

Make or break year for Mazi. A lot of inside d-lineman don't peak until year 3 or so, see Osa for example, but if you don't show by that point it's OVER. I suspect this will be it for Mazi.

I'm not trying to call your post out... But IMO... Osa showed us potential in year 1.

Mazi is the definition of a bust. He is cut before the season starts. What a terrible pick for a team that usually evaluates top 100 players so well.

Oh I don't disagree. I just think it takes inside d lineman a little longer to fully come into their own in this league. Mazi is definitely a bust.

Heard a quick sound bite from Jerry at training camp. Being asked about Parson's contract he said he's making 20 million a year now and isn't even practicing.

With everything going on why take a jab at the guy for not practicing and making money. Just felt out of touch.

For a guy that is listed at 6'3" and nearly 340, I have always been surprised at how small Mazi looks and plays. That's the root of the issue.

That said, his deal is fully guaranteed with $1.9mm in salary due this year and $2.5mm next. So I think he'll stick around as an interior body since they have to pay him regardless. Not really any savings from moving on unless you have enough other DT options and need the roster spot

Wasn't it him who showed up for his rookie season training camp at like 295-300 and the team was like "wtf we didn't ask you to do that." I don't think he's ever been 340 with the cowboys.

I'm over talking about the Parsons situation. We all know he's not going anywhere and he'll be signed sooner or later. What I am excited about is Donovan Ezieruaka. Everything is pointing to him being the real freaking deal.

Yup. He's just not a good football player at this level.

Yet another example of a guy where everything he did was on film, but so many teams passed on him for other players who had "traits" that they like. That's how we ended up with Mazi.

Hopefully this one works out for us the opposite way. The guy was a beast in college and so far the reports are that his game is translating to the NFL just fine.

I don't remember it that way. Mazi was projected to be a second rounder and everybody thought the Cowboys reached for him because he was a need position.

Ezeiraku was thought as a first rounder the entire draft process who fell to the second round and the Cowboys grabbed the best available.

I'm pretty sure the processes were very different.

That's exactly what I was saying... maybe I did a poor job of explaining myself.

We landed Ez because so many teams reached for players with "traits" or "upside" or "scheme fits"... no way he should have gotten to us in the 2nd round with the type of player he is. Lucky us!

On the Mazi deal, we were the suckers that drafted the traits guy and teams like Detroit lucked out with LaPorta (who was very high on our board and who we should have drafted).

I mean I'd even push back some here as well; Ez has good traits, as he's really explosive, has great arms and hands, good bend etc. People just didn't love his overall size being. 6'2" ish and under 250; but overall I'd say he's really athletic. Kinda like the No. 11 guy also at d end.

Well, it will be interesting to see how our practices and pre-season against the Rams go this week. It's always so hard to evaluate your team practicing against itself.

So far the vibe from the offseason has sorta translated into camp. Additions like Pickens appear to be a real talent boost and the players we brought in to fill gaps are doing just that (Solomon Thomas & Elam for ex.). Also appears that some of our younger players continue to take those next steps.

Will be really interesting to see what Schotty does in August. Based on how he practices the team, he feels like a coach that very much disagreed with how McCarthy approached pre-season games. I bet we see all the starters get some meaningful pre-season reps this year.

Listening to Broaddus this morning and he stated he is feeling good about the running backs group. He had them ordered Sanders, Blue, and Williams. Thats good to hear. At the very least, it's sounding like this offense should be able to cook.

offense better be cooking 'cause you're gonna have to win a lot of games by putting a ton up looking at this defense..........

Coach Schotty said Mazi was back down to 305 when camp started.

I saw a lot of posts from the joint practice with the Rams yesterday. A few notes:
  • Looks like the Rams dominated the line of scrimmage both ways - not surprising given their talent on D-line, but something to be aware of
  • Our secondary was getting smoked at times by Nacua and Adams
  • Dallas WRs were doing great
  • Couldn't get much of a run game going (see note about O-line above) - could be a bit concerning
  • Joe Milton looks awesome so far in camp and in these joint practices. I'll actually be excited to watch him play in the preseason

Good post.

Would be interested to see if the Rams were 100% on the line with their 1's. For Dallas I know Tyler Smith only put in a couple reps and we are working with a young / back-up LT.

I think this is also why (and it's smart) that you've been seeing Schotty doing a lot of 1s vs 1s in practice. Mike typically did 1s vs 2s and that simply isn't going to be good enough this year. Our lines in particular need to be as ready as possible week 1.

I just listened to the Locked-On Cowboys short podcast and they have been at camp and were at the joint practice, and they both said that the Dallas line wasn't necessarily getting beat in terms of guys getting blown up, but more struggled with the 3-4 look and the timing of the run plays. Which isn't great for sure, but that stuff is fixable by getting more comfortable with your mates, reps etc. We could struggle to run the ball a bit to start the season, but it should get better. Again I think the line will be solid this year but not elite.
jr15aggie

Correct... I think we've put the pieces in place to (possibly) make this a Top 5 Elite O-line, but a bit early to expect it this year.

The Guyton injury sucks because he was looking good and needed the training camp work... but at least he will be back this year to keep learning under fire.

I'm encouraged to be hearing good things about Blue and seeing him get some 1st team reps. The early reports of him flat out being lazy were not sounding good at all.... looking more and more like that stuff was typical Cowboys click bait.

We have too much talent when healthy to go 5-12. If healthy I think our Floor is 8-9 and our ceiling is 11-6.

10-7 and make the playoffs as a wildcard. Proceed to win 2 playoff games before losing in the nfc title game.

Definitely. The combination of Age & being a Cowboy/Aggie football fan has taught me this... just enjoy the good moments when they give them to you.

Championships are rare. And even when they happen, they are short lived thrills. Enjoy the ride... I plan on doing just that once again this year!

That being said... I'm saying the same thing I say every year... This is our year, let's go Cowboys!!!!!!

Imagining this record as well. Guessing jerry gives parsons a deal that breaks the internet probably on the day before the Netflix series aires. Jerry will say one of his stupid lines like "deadlines makes deals". This team will continue to be in prime time and get headlines for all the wrong reasons

I'm feeling 9-8. I don't think they'll be bad barring major injury (which is possible), but they won't be good either
