If I was running the business, I would at least relax the jacket policy for Memorial Day through Labor Day plus football weekends.
Coopers has a large play area.ElephantRider said:
Sadly, I don't think it will last too long. Sounds like a lot of $$$ and a lot of trouble, and it looks like they sunk a ton of money into the building so I'm guessing there's not much breathing room for the owners.
I don't understand why someone won't open a restaurant with a playground in South CS where parents can go hang out on a patio while kids play? Something similar to Lupe Tortilla's setup (with less sand). A place like that would print money down here
Collectonian said:I can't speak for Christopher's as I've never been - but neither Republic nor Casa Do Brasil have such exacting dress codes either. Republic is usually one I do think of as a "dress up" place, but it isn't a requirement and I've seen folks dressed up like us, and others in shorts. *shrug*Average Joe said:
Not 3-5 De Baca locations, 3-5 higher end restaurants. Republic, Christopher's, Casa Do Brasil. You could probably include Porters in there. I don't think any of them are hurting.
Edit: and yes, like any other restaurant, the food and service will both be big determining factors.
And Casa Do Brasil is much more casual, I rarely see anyone dressed up there, and seen multiple large work groups and stuff there.
That's gonna be a big thing to me, especially since they say they will refuse you service. Seems like a lot of folks that come from out of town to game days and stuff go straight from the game to a pricey restaurant - really gonna turn away all that money?

This market is very challenging for upscale with limited population to support it.

I just checked Yelp, and it's not even listed, not to mention a first review by that Greg guy.
Since they have no prices on their menu, what is the price for a good steak meal?Tailgate88 said:tu ag said:
Just looked at De Baca website...found this.

That should limit the riff raff!
Riff raff checking in here. Between the dress code and the menu prices I'll pass. I'm sure it's very nice though.
Especially in the summer months when many persons are traveling and fewer persons visiting A&M.australopithecus robustus said:

It looks likes a steak, two veggies, salad and tea and tip will be around $110 to $120 a person.
Yep. They've started nickel and diming every little aspect of the meal and the food quality hasn't improved accordingly. Used to love that place but will probably just go to Houston the next time we're in the mood for a meal costing several hundred dollars.Aggieland Proud said:
We ate at Christopher's two weeks ago with a party of 3. No adult beverages, just tea, but did get desserts. After tax and tip, bill was $303.

My favorite nickel and dime tactic is charging for the "whiskey cube" of ice for your whiskey instead of just the normal chunks. Blew my mind the first time it happened to me at The Canteen years ago. Now more and more places do it.
