If I was running the business, I would at least relax the jacket policy for Memorial Day through Labor Day plus football weekends.

Definitely agree with this. Wearing a coat is miserable most anytime in Texas. Even if it's cold outside, I'm not often dressing up just to be outside, so I wind up sweating once inside. The coat policy is only "encouraged", though, so surely it'll be lax.

Sadly, I don't think it will last too long. Sounds like a lot of $$$ and a lot of trouble, and it looks like they sunk a ton of money into the building so I'm guessing there's not much breathing room for the owners.

I don't understand why someone won't open a restaurant with a playground in South CS where parents can go hang out on a patio while kids play? Something similar to Lupe Tortilla's setup (with less sand). A place like that would print money down here
Coopers has a large play area.

Looking forward to the reviews of De Baca next week.

Just becasue they ask you to dress up and it's very pricey, does not guarantee they can cook a steak.

More than one of the other high end restaraunts listed in this thread often struggle in this area.

Wish them the best, but concerned about big revenue weekends like Move in, Parents Weekend, and game days....... Hopefully the dress code can be relaxed as needed, but I do applaud them for bringing the concept to town.

It is time to put the chairs in the wagon

I just checked Yelp, and it's not even listed, not to mention a first review by that Greg guy.

The owners are locals, so I hope it works out.

I imagine they shift the dress policy if need be. Probably similar to Republic, which used to be business casual. I'm not the target clientele, but I wouldn't have an issue throwing on a blazer for some A5 wagyu. Especially if I'm dropping $200+ for dinner for just the wife and I.

Not 3-5 De Baca locations, 3-5 higher end restaurants. Republic, Christopher's, Casa Do Brasil. You could probably include Porters in there. I don't think any of them are hurting.

Edit: and yes, like any other restaurant, the food and service will both be big determining factors.
I can't speak for Christopher's as I've never been - but neither Republic nor Casa Do Brasil have such exacting dress codes either. Republic is usually one I do think of as a "dress up" place, but it isn't a requirement and I've seen folks dressed up like us, and others in shorts. *shrug*

And Casa Do Brasil is much more casual, I rarely see anyone dressed up there, and seen multiple large work groups and stuff there.

That's gonna be a big thing to me, especially since they say they will refuse you service. Seems like a lot of folks that come from out of town to game days and stuff go straight from the game to a pricey restaurant - really gonna turn away all that money?

I wish them well & hope for the best. That said I recollect a certain BBQ place that insisted on not providing certain eating utensils & had to do an about face after multiple complaints. And they still went out of business.

You got to cater to the crowd in this market. Don't make a wookie, I mean rookie mistake.
Trump will fix it.

This market is very challenging for upscale with limited population to support it.

Because of the severe lack of "great jobs" in the area, despite the cities telling us that the next Wayfair call center or ViaSat, or whoever is a "great job". Yeah, it's a great job if you live in Hearne or Caldwell.

"that Greg guy"

How dare you refer to him as anything other than The Taco Monster or The Oracle of Yelp.

Sodolaks in Bryan has a new menu and did some remodeling inside. Also, have began to serve alcohol again.

That should limit the riff raff!

Riff raff checking in here. Between the dress code and the menu prices I'll pass. I'm sure it's very nice though.
Since they have no prices on their menu, what is the price for a good steak meal?

Terracon and CME (weird that it was both, as they both do a lot of the same thing) were both in the vacant lot across Boonville from Miramont yesterday taking soil samples. Maybe a good sign that HEB is getting rolling.

Especially in the summer months when many persons are traveling and fewer persons visiting A&M.

The other link didn't have any prices.

It looks likes a steak, two veggies, salad and tea and tip will be around $110 to $120 a person.

Meh. I can spend north of $100 easy for 3 people at Oishi.

Eating out has gotten expensive at lots of places. Food cost and rent are real things.

I spend right at $100 or just north for a good dinner for 3.

I don't drop $250 for a nice dinner with the wife.

We took a large party to Christopher's last week, like 12 people. It wasn't near $120 a pop.

I think he still lives in California, where he can drive his car without blowing into a tube first.

Google has interesting results, including a stamp collecting newsgroup from 1998 that turned on Greg.

Yelp banned him so we lost that wonderful entertainment resource.

I plan give De Baca a try soon! We almost never eat out, so I don't mind a splurge. But I want to make a reservation at the best time for a good sunset view. If anyone goes, I can't wait to hear a review!

My rule is always wait for the 3 month shakeout cruise to end for a restaurant. That's when the unable to handle stress staff have left and the kitchen manager has either swung into a good groove or complacency. You will figure out more on one visit then than 3 before.

Eating out at a nice restaurant is costly. We ate at Christopher's two weeks ago with a party of 3. No adult beverages, just tea, but did get desserts. After tax and tip, bill was $303. Food and service were excellent.

That's a lot of food. Skip one of the veggies and the salad and you'll bring your price down a lot.

Yep. They've started nickel and diming every little aspect of the meal and the food quality hasn't improved accordingly. Used to love that place but will probably just go to Houston the next time we're in the mood for a meal costing several hundred dollars.

My favorite nickel and dime tactic is charging for the "whiskey cube" of ice for your whiskey instead of just the normal chunks. Blew my mind the first time it happened to me at The Canteen years ago. Now more and more places do it.
