A little more info on the La Madeleine locations. The first location is going in an unidentified vacant restaurant and the second location in the old Zaxbys. For the vacant restaurant, I was thinking maybe the former On the Border, but that is apparently a Mr. Beast ghost kitchen (news to me). What are some other vacant restaurant locations? I would think Varsity Grill would be too $$ to make the financials work.Quote:
Mahmood said he plans to open his first La Madeleine by December, in a vacated restaurant in College Station. He wants to open his second location, also near the Texas A&M University campus in a former Zaxbys, next year. He'll scout sites in Houston for his third La Madeleine location.

Is Zaxby's really considered "near the A&M campus"?

The old Red Lobster building perhaps?
Is there a plan for the Las Palapas site?

Old Red Lobster is going to be Javi's
Las Palapas was torn down and that is where Portillo's is going to be built.

They were still pulling permits within the past few months, so I think it is still going? Their projected completion date for the work is March 2026, so it doesn't seem like there is an urgency there.

Have they not even started construction yet? We bid on it about 4-5 months ago and they went silent. Have been curious what is going on with that.

Yeah. University on the east side of the bypass is going to need to be three lanes each way soon. The traffic increase just in the last 5-10 years has been more than noticeable.
But east loop is bad because there isn't traffic.

Do we know what is going in the new building across from HEB on Hwy 21, near the intersection of Tx avenue ? The dirt work took several weeks, but the building literally was placed in 48 hours.

A Murphy USA convenience store/gas station. They brought the building in in pieces and put it together.

Texas A&M University students will not have to hit the road to grab some of America's most beloved snacks as the university becomes the first in the country to partner with Buc-ee's to bring more than 45 of the Texas brand's most popular products to three locations on the university's main campus in College Station.
Starting Aug. 20, Buc-ee's favorites, like Beaver Nuggets, signature beef jerky, snacks and branded merchandise, will be available at Aggie Express Commons, Aggie Express Hullabaloo and Creekside Market through Aggie Dining.
Texas A&M is now the first and only location in the country to offer Buc-ee's food and merchandise outside of its famous travel centers. This one-of-a-kind partnership offers students, faculty, staff and visitors a taste of Buc-ee's without ever leaving campus.
While the news will be celebrated by current and future students, faculty, staff and campus visitors, a well-known former student is also excited.
"As an Aggie, it's incredibly special to bring Buc-ee's to the heart of the campus," said Arch "Beaver" Aplin III, founder and CEO of Buc-ee's and a proud member of the Texas A&M Class of 1980. "We're thrilled to share a little piece of Buc-ee's with the Aggie Family every day."

I'd rather drive to Madisonville or Waller than get near campus.
