De Baca has done away with the brunch buffet and came up with a new menu. Prices seem very reasonable compared to other breakfast places.

Looks good.

In line with this thread, the wife and I come in for OPAS shows from Fulshear. We always want to try new places before the shows.

What's y'alls first recommendation for us next week for Mrs. Doubtfire?

Remember, we're not on a super time crunch BUT we need to leave so we can park in the garage and get into Rudder by 7:15 at the latest. We normally get into town around 5:30.

Their kitchen gets the food out fast. Yummy entrees and a nice drink selection.

OH heck ya that looks great! The buffet was amazing but costly and I just don't eat large enough portions to justify a buffet.

Quite. I know I'm picky about shrimp (I prefer them just barely cooked) but these were tough and rubbery. The consistency of the grits was thick and it just want very flavorful. Luckily, Mr takes pity on me and traded his CFS. That was delicious.

We have had the shrimp and grits and the shrimp were cooked properly. The grits were a bit thick but still had good flavor.

Keep in mind I love the cheddar grits at Stella, so there is your reference.

The CFS is my go to anyway.

Will also be trying out the brunch at DeBaca. Still need to go for dinner.

Debaca brunch is 11a-2pm on Sunday's. I had to call them as I could not find the hours online.

Mr Dubi and I went to brunch at Debaca at 11:30.

  • Service was fantastic.
  • Dining room had very few customers and we hoped that would increase after church let out. Sadly we left at 12:30 and it was still mostly empty.
  • We ordered off the brunch menu; food was very slow but was extremely good.
  • Mr Dubi had the prime rib and mushroom egg Benedict minus the English muffin. They did not have any GF substitute bread choice.
  • I had the Philly Cheese breakfast bowl.

Friend and I did Chef Cao's tonight for takeout. Ordered off the New Products menu. Wow they have gotten better. Maybe competition jumped them up a bit? Was never that impressed with them in the past but now that Wokamole has closed they'll be our go-to Chinese takeout for the foreseeable future.

Wife and I enjoyed our trip to Marfa.

Ended up getting a few drinks, Texas Caviar appetizer, roasted Brussels, and the CFS.

All was great. The CFS was good but couldn't tell that there were pistachios used for the breading/crust. Was pretty much a regular CFS. Potatoes were great though.

We used to get carryout from the Arrington Rd store every few weeks. I always ordered the same thing - and I'm not sure it was ever made the same way twice in a row. The last time we tried it - which was probably 6 months ago - mine was so bad (ingredients tasted old) we haven't been back.

Same here. It is annoying that the Tower Point location charges a few bucks more than the University dr location but it isn't worth the gas money for me to drive down there and back for the savings.

I am usually a big fan of spicy but I don't add extra spice to Caos. I did it once and man it was crazy hot, it just took over the entire flavor.

I advocated for Marfa CFS as the best in town a while back after several superb visits but it backfired on me with the jinx. I've had it twice in the last few months and it was pretty good but nothing special. I hope they aren't going down the typical restaurant path of evolving excellent into mediocre with small incremental shortcuts they figure no one will notice.

Tried Don Chente tonight.

Salsa was as others on this thread described. Very much a tomato taste.

The rice was…weird? I don't know what seasoning they are going for but it's not something I'll eat again.

I had a breakfast dish and it was good but it's hard to screw up breakfast. Tortillas were good. Chips were good. Refried beans were average.

Restaurant was clean. Price was reasonable. Full house tonight in the dining room.

Overall, it was just above average. I'll try a dinner or lunch entree in the future. Nothing tonight turned me away or made me think "this place is in my regular rotation".

I went this week. My food was decent. Agree rice was odd - really no flavor. I didn't have any issues with the sauce but it wasn't great.

I got a marg (wine based). While it tasted fine, they just aren't my fave. I only drank half.

My favorite dish at Don Chente is the quesabirria tacos. I know other places have them but I think Don Chente has the best in town. For other dishes I prefer other places from what I have tried

The best queso birria tacos I've had are from that kind of sketchy looking little joint on Main St Bryan…San Luis maybe? They were really good.
