Quick Cease update: Both Crane and Miller want him badly. Two guys who - obviously - when they want someone, the Astros will do everything they can to bring them in.

Obviously a long way to go and it won't be cheap but something to keep an eye on.

I was told Rasmussen is someone to keep an eye on in the trade front as Miller has wanted him for quite some time too.

Rass is cheap for this year and next. He was finally healthy last year too. But his #s took a hit. I trust the Astros pitching lab to get more out of his secondary stuff. Those heaters are elite.

Who is higher on the food chain, the Hitting Coach or the Director of Hitting?

Can they add an Assistant to the Regional Hitting Coach job for Dwight Schrute?

This isn't that hard to understand

The director of hitting/off coordinator dictates the overall org philosophy and offensive strategy while the hitting coaches assist the players in implementing that strategy.

And for the record I see this a very good approach.

The way Rome explained it, the hitting coach(es) work directly with the player, dress out, etc. the director in this case is more of the nerd who comes up with the plans based on data. They don't dress out and don't always travel.

Id also assume the coordinator would coordinate the approach down into the minors, yes?

I like the idea of somebody setting the tone for how we want to approach things with a coherent strategy. That is something that felt like we were missing recently. Like when we would face a starter known for going short outings on a team with a suspect bullpen, and we would swing away early in the count and help them keep their pitch count down so they could avoid using their bullpen until later in the game.

so which one -- the Hitting Coach or the Director of Hitting -- is responsible for chewing out the hitter when he has a selfish at-bat or impatient at-bat or non-situational awareness at-bat?

that's what the Astros need

you're thinking about the Hitting Quality Control Supervisor

he reports to the Hitting Director of R&D.

I'd prefer a Hitting Enforcer. Might take a bat to the kneecap to get a few of these guys to start engaging their brains while holding a bat.

Season giveaway box arrived. Lots of the screenprinted jerseys, bucket hats, bobbleheads, etc. some nice Framber memorabilia, lol.

Let me know if you remember something you wanted. I'll trade for a future beer at Daiken.

Oh, and there's a sweet corduroy pride hat for free- no strings attached.

Marvin, is the lower right shooting star still available?

Yes, it is. Send me your info.

Bo over Pena is a bad take.

Pena / Bo
WAR: 5.7 / 3.8
wRC+ 135 / 134
FRV +6 / -10
HR 17 / 18
R 68 / 78
RBI 62 / 94
SB 20 / 4

Offensively, they were similar, but Pena dominated in baserunning and defense. Bo played more (14 games) and was a part of a better offense so the counting #s are in his favor. But Bo got moved off SS and was about 2 WAR lower.

He'd better be cheap. He doesn't do a lot for me. He's older, doesn't have a ton of pop, and plays an average RF. But he does hit RHP well. Feels like we already have a version of him in Sanchez.

He does pull the ball in the air. While our LF isn't like the Crawford Boxes or Yankees' RF, it is still a short porch.

Would you trade Cam, Walker, and Arrighetti for Tatis?

Nope. He's one failed drug test away from being out a LONG time.

Not just that he's a failed test away from a year long suspension, his teammate a year ago in SD was busted.

Where there smoke there is fire.

IMHO, PEDs are in southern CA. And Tatis is on the clock.

Did you mean something else there or have you switched teams on us? Our LF literally IS the Crawford Boxes.
